PWF Big Time Wrestling 1/13/83
Jan 20th, 2013, 9:43pm

Pacific Wrestling Federation
KTVU Studio
Sacramento, CA
January 13, 1983
Syndicated across California as:

Big Time Wrestling (northern CA)
Announcer: Hank Renner

Hollywood Wrestling (southern CA)
Announcer: Jeff Walton

International Tag Team Champions the Wild Samoans (Afa & Sika) defeated Cyclone Negro & "Crazy" Luke Graham in 11 minutes when Afa pinned Negro after a double diving headbutt off the ropes.

A video package hyping the imminent debut of Bob Backlund was shown.

Col. Buck Robley was interviewed.

"I'm I supposed to be scared, Pat Patterson," he said. "I wanted you to come back. I wanted you to go for your revenge. I attacked you, I put a beating on you, because I knew you were going to come back for me. It was all part of the plan, you see. Because now we're going to have a showdown, and I'm going to be at the top of the card where I should be. And after I take you out permanently, I'll stay there!"

Bugsy McGraw & "Pistol" Pez Whatley defeated Alexis Smirnoff & Gene Lewis in 6 minutes when McGraw pinned Lewis after a big splash off the ropes.

United States Heavyweight Champion "Crusher" Jerry Blackwell was interviewed.

"Adrian Street, you're right," he said. "I'm short, hairy and fat. But I'm also dangerous. I could rip apart the San Francisco phone book. I could crush a big ole' coffee can against my forehead. So… imagine what I could do to you? C'mon and get some if you want some, boy!"

Samula defeated Billy Robinson in almost 10 minutes to win the World Television Title. In the end, Robinson went for a piledriver. Samula backdropped out of it, but Robinson held a waist lock and bridged back to his feet, before going for a backslide. Samula kicked out and back to his feet at two, then hit a sunset flip for the pin, right before the time limit expired.

His father Afa and uncle Sika ran to the ring to celebrate with Samula, and soon were joined by McGraw, Whatley and others.

Gypsy Joe defeated Rick McGraw in 5 minutes by referee stoppage. Joe never once went for a pin or applied a submission move; he simply kept beating and stomping McGraw until he was no longer responsive.

Love the way you portrayed Gypsy Joe as a no-quarter beatdowner. Samula being congratulated by his dad and uncle was a Kodak moment. Nice put over by the vet Robinson. Blackwell with the "imagine what I can do to you" line was priceless. I am digging the Robley as the lead heel here.

Enjoyed this a lot.

Congrats to TV champ Samula & his breakout moment.

Curious - as the video was kept vague - what Bob Backlund will have in store for us in his new home.

The quality of the matches on this show was the attraction for me.  The non-ring stuff was a bit light, but pairing Street & Blackwell has some great creativity, looking to see more there.
