Championship Wrestling from Florida presents: Southern Championship Wrestling Telecast 1/19/83 across the Sunshine State with Gordon Solie, Buddy Colt, and Barbara Cleary *All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance* Interviews and Announcements: - Gordon reminds fans about the huge card Monday night in the Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg where new Florida Tag Team Champions will be crowned. “It will be an event never before seen in Florida Wrestling history. Be a part of it.” He also tells fans that a match has been signed for Monday night between Southern Heavyweight Champion Greg Valentine and Florida Heavyweight Champion Butch Reed with Reed’s belt on the line as well as a future match with NWA World Heavyweight Champion David Von Erich. - Jake Roberts tells Buddy Colt that he has plans for Kevin Sullivan on Monday night. “You time in Florida is up Sullivan. I told you that your coming and going would only be at my say so and I say that your time to leave is Monday night. The Legion of Doom is stepping aside because I want the pleasure of ending your career myself. And yes Sullivan, I will take pleasure in doing something that Paul Jones, Barry Windham, and even that fat slob Dusty Rhodes could never do; making you just a man. A man at the end of his career. - In a videotaped message, Barry Windham tells everyone that he is rehabbing his knee and should be back to make an attempt at reclaiming his Southern Title from Greg Valentine in February. “You want to try and cripple men Valentine? Well you have only lit a bigger fire under me to get back in the ring and take back what was mine. You don’t deserve to be a champion Valentine. Better men deserve to be on that pedestal.” - Kevin Sullivan tells Barbara Cleary that he’s more than ready for “the Snake” Monday night. “Now Barbara, the mystic powers of Abbudah Dien have shown me that the future Jake Roberts talks about is a false prophecy. There is a long time left for me here in Florida, and much retribution left to exact. But those lessons aren’t coming to you thanks to Abbudah Dien. No. Those lessons are coming from a man that grew up on the mean streets of Boston. A man who saw friends knifed, beaten, bloodied, and battered before my eyes. I know how to deliver the pain you deserve Roberts. The question will be if you can walk out alive.” - “Professor” Bill Ash tells Buddy that he will prove to everyone that he is a superior wrestler to Chris Adams, and will prove it. “You see Buddy, the English wrestler is nothing special. I’ve beaten the two ‘chaps’ you have here in Florida time and again. They tried and failed to take the Florida TV title off my waist, just like you will try and fail to keep me from taking the World’s Junior Heavyweight belt from around yours. You see, Judo Boy, I don’t rely of any chop-socky kicks and flips. I just wrestle. I work hard and fight harder. And while you and your tea sipping friends from across the pond may not recognize hard work when you see it. You will recognize it when I stomp your crooked English teeth down your throat.” - Butch Reed tells Gordon that Monday night will be about proving where the future of Florida wrestling is going. “Monday night is about proving one thing Gordon. And that one thing is whether the future of Florida wrestling is pain or pride. See Greg Valentine likes to hurt people, cause them pain. He goes out of his way to cripple men when the victory is already in his hand. That isn’t the way a champion, a former World Champion I might add, should carry himself. Me, Gordon, I wrestle for pride. I’ve called myself the natural because I haven’t been taught by anyone in this business. I’ve gone through the school of hard knocks and become the man I am today on my own. I didn’t have a famous daddy to open my door. I had to kick it in myself and prove that a black man from Missouri is as good as anyone. And this Florida heavyweight title, well it says I’m as good as most Valentine and after Monday night, when I’m still holding it, it will prove I’m better than you.” Matches for this Telecast: - Perro Aguayo defeats Shane Douglas with a double stomp to the midsection. - Spike Huber and Steve Regal defeat the Nightmare and the Zebra Kid after Regal locks the Zebra Kid into an abdominal stretch in the center of the ring. - “Warlord” Jonathan Boyd falls to Brett Sawyer in a battle for the Florida TV title after Brett was able to roll up Boyd with a small package. - Kevin Sullivan defeats Pete Doherty with a Boston crab. - In the TV main event, World Junior Heavyweight Champion Chris Adams and Omar Atlas fell to “Professor” Bill Ash and the Masked Superstar #2 when Ash was able to catch Adams with the Arkansas whiplash and pin the World’s Junior Heavyweight Champion in the center of the ring. Ash, the Superstar, and the Boss celebrated like they had just won the Super Bowl as the telecast goes off the air.
