AWA MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
Tape date: 1/3/83
Arena: Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, OH
Matchmaker: Tom Renesto
Ring Announcer: Dennis Ashley
Announcers: Jack Reynolds and Terry Sullivan
Refs: Hal Light and Frenchy Bernard

World Wide Sports in conjunction with the Major League of Professional Wrestling the American Wrestling Association brings you Midwest Championship Wrestling. Now here are your hosts Jack Reynolds and Terry Sullivan.

Jack Reynolds welcomes everyone to Midwest Championship Wrestling, the most exciting half hour on TV, before introducing his tag-team partner Big Time Terry Sullivan who has big news concerning the AWA. Sullivan announces that Jerry “the King” Lawler defeated Chief Wahoo McDaniel to become the new World Heavyweight Champion while the East West Connection of Jesse “the Body” Ventura and “Golden Boy” Adrian Adonis defeated the Brisco Bros. to become the new World Tag-Team Champions. The King and the EWC will be appearing in the territory in the very near future with the EWC set to defend their tag-team titles against Fred Curry and Randy Scott this coming Tuesday night in Toledo.

When we return from a short break the Sheik will be competing in 6 man tag-team action.
Commercial break

1st Match of the Evening – your referee is Hal Light
The Exalted Noble Sheik, the Bounty Hunter (Lancaster in Novak Bros. style gear – Big Jim managed the Bounty Hunters at one point in his career), and Bruiser Banks managed by “Super Mouth” Dave Drason defeated Aaron Hunter (Hutto), Crusher Cortez and Ric McCord. The young lions and the veteran Crusher put up a fight but in the end it’s the Sheik locking the Camel Cluth on McCord for the submission victory.

Dennis Ashley interviews the winning team and their manager who are all returning to the territory. The Sheik walks around the ring speaking in Syrian, which sounds a lot like he’s repeating “Kalamazoo” over and over. Ashley with his big bruisers sends world to Cowboy Bobby Colt that one of his men will be the next Midwest Heavyweight Champion. That’s a fact and there is nothing that Colt can do to prevent it from happening.
Terry Sullivan runs down the big card coming to the Toledo Sports Arena, the home of the IHL’s Toledo Goaldiggers, on Tuesday night January 8th. This card will feature 6 big matches including the Main Event of the East West Connection defending the World Tag-Team Championship against Fred Curry and Randy Scott. Curry and Scott earned this title shot by defeating the European tag-team champions Otto Von Heller and Igor Volkoff right here on TV last week. Other action on this card will see Cowboy Bobby Colt taking on Bruiser Banks in a non-title match and four more big matches.

2nd Match of the Evening – your referee is Hal Light.
Otto Von Heller was distracted by a security officer blowing his whistle at ringside during his match with Sweet Daddy Monroe. The wily Monroe took advantage of the distractions and nearly pulled off the upset before the big German was able to place Monroe throat first across the second rope and then deliver the Guillotine legdrop for the win.

Following the match Von Heller challenged the security officer to come into the ring. Terry Sullivan made the comment that this was something that we did not be taking place under any circumstances since Von Heller was a trained professional wrestler and the security officer was not. Sullivan quickly changed his tune however when the security officer removed his sunglasses and hat revealing himself to be Nick Busick. Sullivan informed viewers that Busick was indeed a wrestler. In fact in his recent tour of GCW Busick had defeated the Anderson Family, forced Sir Oliver Humperdink to completely rebuild his stable and defeated the Midnight Express Inc. Von Heller changed his tune almost as fast as Sullivan as he headed outside the ring as Busick climbed the steps to enter the ring.
Dennis Ashley interviewed Nick Busick from center ring. Busick said that Von Heller had been asking for competition and now he had more than he could handle.
Terry Sullivan interviews Otto Von Heller from ringside. Von Heller claims that this was a conspiracy by Midwest Championship Wrestling to try to catch him off guard but that he proved once again that he is superior to all Americans. Von Heller says that he will be ready to destroy Busick when the two meet in a match.
Busick rubs his right fist indicating the heart punch as he challenges Von Heller to reenter the ring. Von Heller points to his head as he goose steps to the back.

COMMERCIAL
Terry Sullivan announces that a match between Otto Von Heller and Nick Busick will take place on Tuesday in Toledo. These two titans will also meet in Springfield, OH at the Veterans Memorial Hall on Wednesday night January 9, 1983. Other great action in Springfield will see the wild man Ratamayus with his associates the Voodoo Priest Lord Zoltan, and Grog will challenge Cowboy Bobby Colt for the Midwest Heavyweight Championship, the exciting tag-team of the TN. Studs will debut against Tim Tall Tree and Ric McCord and Larry Hamilton will be in action plus more.

Highlights air of the East West Connection defeating the Brisco Bros. to win the World Tag-Team titles. Rodger Kent calls the action. Following the highlights an interview Kent conducted with the EWC airs with the Body telling everyone how they will see the greatest tag-team of all time in Springfield, OH. Adonis says that they care if they are facing Wild Bull Curry and Sandy Scott or Fred Curry and Randy Scott they will be showing the hicks in Toledo what great tag-team wrestling is all about.

TV MAIN EVENT
Fred Curry and Randy Scott vs Al Snow and Johnny Heffernan

Gino Brito comes out with Snow and Heffernan and gives them some last minute advice before heading to the broadcast table where he joins Jack and Terry for the call of the match.

Brito talks about Snow and Heffernan both being trained by the great Al Costello and if they follow the advice of men like Costello and himself they will have a great future in this sport.

Snow and Curry work well together, but are no match at this point in their careers for a championship caliber team like Curry and Scott. Curry sunset flips Snow following a dropkick by Scott. Brito admits to being extremely impressed by the teamwork of Curry and Scott and says that the East West Connection are going to have their hands full on Wednesday night in Springfield, OH.

Dennis Ashley interviews the winners of the match Fred Curry and Randy Scott. Curry says that the East West Connection have to be heavily favored going into the match in Springfield, because of their experience as a team. Still you can tell that they are worried just listening to them trying to make things personal by mentioning his Dad Bull and Randy’s family the Scott Bros. Fred says that if Bull was still active nothing would make him happier than yanking those earrings out of Ventura’s ears and as great a team as the EWC are they are nothing compared to Sandy and George Scott. Curry says that they might be the underdogs but they do have certain advantages in that they have been able to see lots of video of the EWC teaming together whereas the ECW haven’t had the same opportunity. Curry says that when you take that advantage and then add in that this is Randy’s and his home territory and home fans that they can build on those advantages and if everything goes to plan Midwest Championship Wrestling could be the home of the World Tag-Team Champions.
Jack Reynolds wishes Fred and Randy the best of luck before signing off for another great week of Midwest Championship Wrestling action. Join us again next week.

Liked the treatment of Busick. Royal was robbed. Brito and Sheik continue their reign of terror. Royal and Sexton look to be a tough team. Like the Freak show of Ratamayus, Lord Zoltan, and Grog. Colt will have a lot of trouble with them. The Tennessee Studs will get the heat of the fans real easy wrestling with that edge.

Some real creative work here, Red.

Good job snazzing things up with colorful characters coming in (Ratamyus!).  Darn, you went truly "big time", I've heard of all of those venues.  Always appreciate the pertinent real life info you add, it does well in supporting the stories.  And adds to my knowledge of interesting trivia!

Good shows, I see the upgrade from the dinky town HS events, and again, adds to the authenticity.
