"Portland Wrestling", 1/26/83

“Portland Wrestling”
Sports Arena
1/26/83

Don Coss and Dutch Savage open the show.

Coss, “Welcome to the 'House of Action'! We are four days away from the 'Portland Special'. We have a big eight man tag team main event that night, but we only have seven men. 'Playboy' Buddy Rose and his Army are set, but Billy Jack, Stan Stasiak and Jimmy Snuka are one man short. Dutch, who will they choose?”

Savage, “There are a lot of candidates, but you have to pick a good one. Rose is a loudmouth, but he is dangerous and he has a great army with him.”

Coss, “We will talk to Billy Jack, Stan Stasiak and Jimmy Snuka later in the program, and speaking of Billy Jack and the Army, our main event tonight is Billy Jack vs. Ed Wiskoski, so we get an early glimpse of the “Portland Special”. Let's open the show with the New Zealand Sheepherders.

Match #1
The New Zealand Sheepherders def. Terry Adonis and Pat McGinnis, w/Gutbuster vs. Adonis

“Playboy” Buddy Rose and the Army are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “Mr. Rose, things are heating up in 1983. Jimmy Snuka has come very close to taking the title from Oliver and now you have a big eight man tag team match on Tuesday. We don't know who the eighth man will be.”

Rose, “It won't be anyone. Who is going to volunteer to take a beating from the Army? Look at us, the Assassin, Oliver, Wiskoski, and me, the best wrestler in the world. It's going to be four on three and there is no way then can beat us that way.”

Coss, “I don't know, I can see a lot of people who would like a shot at you.”

Rose, “They may talk that way, but when it comes down to getting in the ring, no one is going to risk his health.”

Coss, “That might be. Let's talk about tonight. Mr. Wiskoski, you meet Billy Jack in our main event.”

Wiskoski, “That musclebound punk? I'll take care of him tonight. We'll take care of his team on Tuesday and then Buddy and I will regain our tag titles.”

Coss, “Let's see the Northwest Champion in action.”

Match #2
Non-Title Match
Rip Oliver (Northwest Champion)w/”Playboy” Buddy Rose def. Verne Seibert, w/Piledriver

The New Zealand Sheepherders are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us are the Sheepherders. Gentleman, you have been asking for more competition. On Tuesday night, you take on the tag team of Dean Ho and Rocky Della Serra. Ho is a top veteran and Della Serra is an up-and-coming star. This will be a challenge.”

Williams, “Bloody Don Coss, you know that my cousin and I are the best, you've seen us before! We'll take care of these two and then move on the Champions!”

Miller, “That's right cousin! The Champions are afraid of us, but they'll have to wrestle us after this!”

Coss, “Let's see Ho and Della Serra in action.”

Match #3
Dean Ho and Rocky Della Serra def. Moondog Moretti and Tiny Anderson, Ho w/Abdominal Stretch vs. Moretti

Ho and Della Serra are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us is the new tag team we just saw in the ring. Dean, Rocky, you looked good, but Tuesday night, it's the New Zealand Sheepherders.”

Della Serra, “Dean and I know how good and vicious they are. We're ready for them! I'm happy to have a veteran like Dean with me and I know we can beat them.”

Ho, “Rocky is a good young partner, I've wrestled the Sheepherders before and I know what that's like. We want to move up the rankings and this is how you do it.”

Coss, “Well, it's going to be a great one, the New Zealand Sheepherders vs. Dean Ho and Rocky Della Serra, don't miss it.”

Match #4
Christopher Colt def. Buck Ramstead, w/Elbow Drop

Coss, “Our main event is next.”

Main Event, Two out of Three Falls
Billy Jack vs. Ed Wiskoski w/”Playboy” Buddy Rose

First Fall-
The crowd is on the edge of their seats. They are solidly behind Billy Jack, but you know that Wiskoski, and Rose, will have plan. Whatever that plan is, it doesn't work in the first fall. It's all Billy Jack and he forces Wiskoski to submit with the Full Nelson.
Winner-Billy Jack

Billy Jack, Stan Stasiak and Jimmy Snuka are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “First of all Billy, congratulations.”

BJ, “Thank you Don, but that's only half of it. I have to win one more fall.”

Coss, “Now let's move on to Tuesday night. The Army has their four men, Rose, Oliver, the Assassin and Wiskoski. You only have three. Who is your third man?”

Staskiak, “Look, Rose and his goons are good, so we need a top guy. We talked about it, and we came up with one name, and here he is.”

Matt Borne joins them.

Coss, “Matt Borne! What a choice!”

Borne,”I want to thank these three for picking me! I'm excited about this match. I hate Rose as much as anyone, and it will be great to get a piece of all four of them!”

Coss, “Let's go to our second fall.”

Second Fall- takes the mike from Owen.

Rose, “Borne, you punk! You stick your nose in my business and I'll slap you silly! You're not man enough for a match like this!”

The bell rings and Wiskoski pulls out all stops. Billy is sharp, but Wiskoski takes him down and uses the ropes for leverage. A sneaky veteran move by the “Polish Prince”.
Winner-Ed Wiskoski

Coss and Savage are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “Partner, we are three days from the 'Portland Special'. These shows are always great, but the action in this one will be off the charts.”

Savage, “Wrestling is a dangerous occupation, those of us who lasted 20 plus years know this. Singles matches are dangerous, tag team matches are even more dangerous, but when you put eight men in the ring, you take your life into your own hands. This will be a war!”

Coss, “On one side, Buddy Rose, Rip Oliver, Ed Wiskoski and the Assassin, on the other, Billy Jack, Stan Stasiak, Jimmy Snuka and Matt Borne. That is a recipe for danger, and for excitement. You will also see the New Zealand Sheepherders take on Dean Ho and Rocky Della Serra. You will also see two newcomers to the Northwest, one is returning, Buck Zumhofe. This man from Hawaii was here a few years ago and he is exciting. Then we will see a man by the name of Sheik Al Hasan.”

Savage, “Zumhofe is exciting, but I want to talk about the Sheik. I have not seen him, but people have told me stories. Not only is he a great wrestler, but he is one of the most mysterious men in the sport. He does things in the ring that defy description. I want to see him in action.”

Coss, “Let's go to the ring for our third fall.”

Third Fall-This is a brawl from the bell. They pound away and neither man takes a step back. Billy Jack traps Wiskoski in the Full Nelson. The “Polish Prince” submits.
Winner-Billy Jack

The Assassin and Rip Oliver come to ringside. They think about climbing into the ring, but Stan Stasiak, Jimmy Snuka and Matt Borne hit the ring. The show ends with a stare down.

Why do I get a strange suspicion that Borne may be a double agent?  Either that or you've picked a great way to move him up the card by mixing him in with all the top guys.

Good show.  Look forward to the special.

I, too, am intrigued by the inclusion of Borne and will be watching. Glad to see Billy Jack with a clean win over Wiskoski. The use of the vets Colt and Ho are just examples of how you book things the right way, Tom. Watch out for the bedlam that is the Sheepherders!

Always a fun, go down easy read with PNW.

Up to date in Oregon.

Keeping it simple at its best in this territory.  The driving force of Rose's Army drives the stories.  Simple as it is, it is fabulous.  Good seeing Dean Ho keeping some traction & really liked how Owen plays when insterted.

As usual w/ tylne, solid well booked shows with a driving "main" story that highlights the rest of the show. Especially in PNW, where the main event, with the 2/3 falls match, was in all reality, much more important than everything else.
