Championship Wrestling from Florida presents: Southern Championship Wrestling Telecast 1/23/83 across the Sunshine State with Gordon Solie, Buddy Colt, and Barbara Cleary *All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance* Interviews and Announcements: - Gordon welcomes everyone with the announcement that there are new Florida Tag Team Champions, the unlikely duo of Mike George and “the Canadian Bruiser” Bob Sweetan. But before he can get much further into the events from Monday night in St. Pete, Gordon is interrupted by a former tag team champion, Jesse Barr. “Gordon, what was done Monday night is a travesty. Not only do you have an ape like Bob Sweetan wearing tag team gold, you saw the splitting up of one of the truly great tag teams of the last half of the 20th century in myself and Mike George. But I’m a big enough man to do things right. And to make things right, Bob Sweetan, I want you in the ring. Not Tuesday night. Not down in Miami or Fort Lauderdale. I want you today. I want you right here on TV for your half of the Florida Tag Titles and I want it to be a loser leaves Florida match. Eddie Graham, make the match. Cause Gordon, I know I’m better than Bob Sweetan. Heck, he’s Canadian and the only good things to come from Canada are Seagram’s whiskey and Molson beer. I’m gonna send you packing back to that Great White Nowhere you escaped from and then, reunited, Mike George and Jesse Barr are gonna roll all the way back to the NWA Tag team titles.” - “Professor” Bill Ash and the Boss are with Buddy Colt and Colt asks the whereabouts of the Masked Superstar #2. “After consultation with the Boss, it has been determined that the so-called Superstar just hasn’t been super enough for this organization. So I have used my superior intellect and have acquired the services of a man who will make sure that the next time that Limey loser Chris Adams brings my World Junior Heavyweight title back. Next week, I shall unveil this monster and all of Florida will stand in awe of his ability.” - Brett Sawyer tells Barbara that he’s tired of facing off with the small fish. “As it stands Barbara, I’m still the Florida TV Champion. I’ve beaten any challenge that’s come my way and I’m out to prove that I’m the man of the future. The time for me to step up my game has come. I know there are men out here like Kevin Sullivan or Mike George, or that freak the Missing Link that should get a shot, so bring them on. I’m the best wrestler on TV and that is just the plain fact.” - Eddie Graham comes out after the melee and tells Buddy that after what he just saw, he’s banning both of those two from Florida wrestling for 60 day. “This war between the Legion of Doom, Kevin Sullivan, and the One Man Gang has to stop and maybe with 60 days to cool off somebody will get some sense in their head.” - A videotaped message from Barry Windham was aired and it showed him meeting with doctors, telling him that if he sustains any further damage to his knee before February 13th, it would keep him from wrestling professionally for the foreseeable future. Barry tells how he understands the risks he’s taking but, “Greg Valentine and all the bullies in professional wrestling need to learn that you might kick a man to put him to a knee, but a true man will rise up and take his vengeance.” Matches for this telecast: - Mike Graham defeats the Nightmare with a butterfly suplex. - “Professor” Bill Ash defeats “Cowboy” Tony Falk via count out after delivering an Arkansas Whiplash to Falk on the outside. A groggy Falk has to be helped to the back. - Florida TV Champion Brett Sawyer defeats Perro Aguayo with a side Russian leg sweep. - In a brutal encounter, the One Man Gang and “Warlord” Jonathan Boyd brawl to a no contest that sees the Missing Link, King Curtis Iaukea, a newcomer armed with a kendo stick, and Kevin Sullivan all join in the fray with the OMG and Boyd both slugging officials and other wrestlers to keep after each other. Finally, Sullivan is able to pull back the Gang while Iaukea helps Boyd retreat under the cover of the Missing Link and the kendo armed madman. - In the main event, a loser leaves Florida contest, Bob Sweetan defeats Jesse Barr with a pile driver after Sweetan’s co-title holder and Barr’s tag team partner Mike George accidentally tosses a pair of brass knuckles through the legs of Barr and into the grasp of Sweetan. Bob clobbers Barr and finishes him with a pile driver for good measure as George looks on in anguish.
