GCW: Waycross, Athens 1/28, 31/83
Jan 31st, 2013, 12:52pm

City Auditorium
Waycross, Georgia January 28, 1983 7 PM
Referee: Nick Patrick

Kerry Brown defeats D.J. Peterson
with a butterfly suplex @ 7:29.

Jesse Barr defeats Paul Diamond with a Texas cloverleaf @ 6:39.

Thunderbolt Patterson vs. Duke Myers
The two Southern vets go at it hard here. Myers twists his knee pad while Thunderbolt sets up for a finishing move. The running forearm from T-Bolt is met with a flying knee to the chest. The fans boo as the popular Patterson is pinned @ 9:28.

Steve Olsonoski/Wendell Cooley/Bob Backlund vs. The Midnight Express (Norvell Austin/Randy Rose/Rip Rogers)
The ME mocks the injured Sweet Brown Sugar by skipping around. Rogers gets the house mike and asks where “Sweets” is. They look very concerned when the well-known Backlund comes down as part of the opposition. They were right to be so. Backlund takes advantage of a missed fist drop by Rose late. He applies a chicken wing submission hold for the win @ 12:00.

Jerry Brisco vs. Ron Bass w/Sir Oliver Humperdink
Humperdink distracts Patrick late in this one. Jesse Barr comes down and hits the younger Brisco with a chop to the throat. This allows Bass to land a bulldog to pin Jerry @ 15:04.

Brother Jack comes down and points out Barr’s interference. Trusting Jack, Patrick reverses the decision. Bass is ticked at Jack and runs him hard into a ringpost. Jack is busted open, as the intermission begins.

******INTERMISSION******

NWA World Heavyweight Title
David Von Erich © vs. Jack Brisco

Brisco’s head is bandaged as the match starts. Von Erich goes hold-for-hold with the challenger. A referee break in the corner at around the ten-minute causes some tempers to flare. Von Erich, in a move that the crowd does not like, rips off the bandage and pounds away. Jack tries to defend himself and does get in some offense from this point on. Eventually, though, the crimson loss proves too much. The Iron Claw puts Jack’s shoulders to the mat for a three count @ 22:04.

After Von Erich leaves, Humperdink, Bass, and Barr come out and taunt Jack, who is being helped by Jerry.

Georgia Coliseum
Athens, Georgia January 31, 1983 7 PM
Referee: Scrappy McGowan

Davey O’Hannon defeats The Saint with an abdominal stretch @ 7:00.

Joel Deaton/Johnny Mantell defeat Bob/Joe Marcus when Deaton turns Marcus a complete flip with a wicked Lariat @ 8:55.

Bob Roop defeats Barry Horowitz with a shoulder breaker after Horowitz misses a middle rope elbow @ 8:22.

Mike Rotundo w/James J. Dillon vs. Armand Rougeau
This is Rotundo’s first match since sending Dory Funk, Jr packing for 90 days. Rotundo takes advantage of a missed knee drop and finishes off Rougeau with a spinning toe hold @ 12:11. After the bout, Rotundo tells the crowd that he may make it a career of taking out “second generation bums”.

Paul Orndroff/Jim Duggan w/James J. Dillon vs. Mr. Wrestling II/Tony Atlas
II has Orndorff set up toward the end when “The Total Legend” makes a bling tag to Duggan. The former footballer spears the masked man out of his boots. Atlas is held back by Orndorff and Dillon while Duggan powerslams II for the win @ 14:39.

******INTERMISSION******

Georgia Heavyweight Title
Dick Slater vs. Bobby Duncum © w/Sir Oliver Humperdink

After a brutally stiff match, Slater has Duncum covered after a pile driver. Humperdink sees the money flying out the window, so he bounds into the ring. He kicks Slater squarely in the back. McGowan calls for the DQ bell, saving Duncum the belt, @ 16:00.

National Heavyweight Title
Masked Superstar © vs. Ted DiBiase w/James J. Dillon

These two guys fight all over the ringside area. DiBiase adjusts the dreaded black glove.  He tries a discuss punch with it and slams his fist against a ringpost. Superstar rolls him back in and clamps on a cobra clutch. Dillon tries to go in but is pulled down by Mr. Wrestling II. Ted goes under @ 18:00.

After the bout, Orndorff, Rotundo, and Duggan join in on a beatdown of the ‘Star and II. They are left in the ring, face down.

A couple of excellent shows for the Peach State fans.
I'm really enjoying the return of GCW alums Bobby Duncum, Bob Backlund and Duke Myers. If Terry Garvin hadn't of done the things that he did it would be great to see him here managing his old tag-team partner and the young lion Brown.

as a kid I couldn't understand how Backlund who did some decent work in GCW, but wasn't a top guy suddenly went up north and became World Champion.

Two good cards...The new GA talent is off to a good start...Patrick shouldn't call what he doesn't see...Had Brisco been 100%, the results may have been different...II really needs to teach that cross-eyed punk a lesson...SLater got robbed...Good match between Superstar & DiBiase...Nice work Johnny!

Love these cards. Georgia is such a great wrestling area and every venue, whether its Atlanta or Brunswick can have a packed house. Loved the von Erich - Brisco match and I am luke warm on DVE as world champion. Athens with it's double main event was awesome. The viper gold club is tearing the state up. Masked Superstar is the man! Gee, no love for TBolt lol.  Great shows!
