NWA Florida TV 2/2/83 Sawyer hits a stone wall
Feb 1st, 2013, 4:22pm

Championship Wrestling from Florida presents: Southern Championship Wrestling
Telecast across the Sunshine State with Gordon Solie, Buddy Colt, and Barbara Cleary

*All matches are sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance*

Interviews and Announcements:
-      Gordon welcomes everyone to the telecast and is immediately interrupted by a familiar face, “Maniac” Mark Rocco. “Mr. Solie, that sod Bill Ash said last week that he had in his knickers a man who would guarantee Chris Adams lost the World Junior title the next time he came to Florida. Well I’ve come back to Florida to prove that won’t happen. You’re a second class grappler Ash. You aren’t a match for Chris Adams. Only one man in Florida is a match for Chris Adams and I’m it. And if you get a set of bollocks and step back in the ring with me, I’ll remind you that I’m the best the British have to offer.”

-      Jake Roberts  and the Legion of Doom, minus the Warlord but with a new menacing figure in tow, tells Buddy that with the One Man Gang sent back to Chicago, “Now, we turn our attention fully to ending the career of Kevin Sullivan. You believe that almost blinding me would stop the advance of the Legion of Doom. Don’t you know Kevin, the most dangerous animal in nature is an injured animal. It will lash out at anything and will strike to kill. And Kevin Sullivan, the Warlord Boyd may have been sadistic. He was nothing compared to this man behind me. Banished from Japan for purposefully injuring opponents. He is a man who thrills at pain, his own and that of others. Face him and you will learn to fear him. Face him and know the meaning of pain.”

-      “Professor” Bill Ash and the Boss come out to join Barbara and Ash introduces his new enforcer; “Rugged” Ron Garvin. Ron comes out with his brother Terry and a very effeminate looking Tony Falk in tow and as Ash starts to run off at the mouth about Mark Rocco, Ron snatches away the microphone. “Ash, shut your mouth before I rip that moustache off your face. I want to make perfectly clear why I’ve come back to Florida. The two reasons I’m back in this mosquito infested cesspool are the money that the Boss is paying my brother and I and to remind the people of Florida what a real man looks like. Last week, I heard that boy Brett Sawyer run his mouth saying he was the best wrestler on television. Well son, I was a better wrestler on TV when you were still trying to learn to walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. The Garvin Brothers were the best tag team in this territory and we proved it night in and night out. Now, Terry is here to show his new Boy Tony how a tag team is supposed to operate while I earn my money and show ring rats like Brett Sawyer that nobody is better than Ron Garvin, including you Ash.”

-      Eddie Graham tells Buddy that he has heard from the NWA offices in New York and “It is the consensus of the Board of Directors that due to his injuries, the NWA will not sanction a match between Barry Windham and the man that caused those injuries, Greg Valentine. That is why I am making the match a lights out contest. But due to the unsanctioned nature of the match, it therefore cannot be a rematch for the Southern Heavyweight Title.” This brings out Greg Valentine, smiling. “Eddie Graham, the smartest thing you could have done is keep that punk kid sitting back home. Because Windham, when you step foot in the ring with me February 13th in Miami, I’m going to end your career. I’m going to prove that you aren’t even the equal of your father. At least he’s a has-been. You are a never were.”

-      Professor Boris Malenko, sitting in with Gordon during his sons’ match tells how he’s going back to basics on how he treats this profession. “Professional Wrestling is about proving who is the best. The best physically, mentally, the toughest of the species.  My sons have been raised to be champions Gordon and now that those cowardly lions Regal and Huber have been run off, it is back to chasing the Florida Tag Team titles. Joseph and Dean were among the last men standing when new champions were crowned and if it were a tournament, I am 100% certain that they would be holding the belts over a mongrel duo the likes of Mike George and Bob Sweetan. Think about this Gordon; how can a team be the best in Florida when they can’t even stand each other?”

Matches for this telecast:
-      Ripper Savage falls to Mike Graham after Mike locks the muscle man into a sleeper hold.

-      Mr. Pogo w/ King Curtis Iaukea defeats Perro Aguayo with a leg drop

-      Terry Garvin and his Boy Tony defeat George Barnes and Terry Orndorff after the Boy Tony catches Barnes with a Thesz press.

-      Florida TV Champion Brett Sawyer defeats “The Judge” Paul DeMarco via disqualification when Ron Garvin comes back out to ringside and levels Sawyer with a punch on the outside in view of official Gilberto Roman.

-      In the Main Event, The Malenko Brothers defeat the former Arizona tag team champions Hercules Stevenson and “Macho Man” John Ringer after Joe gains the submission from Stevenson via a short arm scissor.

An ecclectic mix of talent in Florida. Sawyer is in trouble if Garvin is after him. Windham and Valentine is still the money feud here in my opinion. The Malenkos and The Az Alum would've been an interesting clash of styles. Kyle, you got a lot going on here. Fun read! Smiley

Be still ,my heart. Loved the reference to the past exploits of Ringer and Stevenson. Cool Garvin and his comments were great on two fronts. Terry and Ronnie re-uniting is nostalgic. Garvin talking to Ash, as well, may be a sign of fun things still to come. Boris had a real good point. Valentine may be a ticked off animal with no title shot coming. Bad news for Windham.

Solid, Kyle.

Great TV...I'll be cheering for Rocco against Ash...Roberts and Sullivan is a feud for the ages...Loved the stuff with Garvin...I really hope Barry knows what he is doing against Valentine...Malenko seems refocused and his kids should benefit...Great work!
