WWC in San Juan 2/9
Feb 9th, 2013, 8:13pm

The World Wrestling Council, a proud member of the National Wrestling Alliance brings great wrestling action to the Hiram Bonham Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico on the 9th of February, 1983.

Your referees for this evenings contest are Ricky Vargas Benitez, Tomas Marin and Victor Quinones

Your ring announcer for this evenings card in Hugo Savinovich

There were around 750 fans turned away and the crowd is quite raucous.

OPENING CONTEST

El Grand Apollo pins the newcomer Chris Hamrick via a dropkick at the 9 minute mark.

Shane Douglas and Rick Steiner with Percival Pringle the Third get the win over the team of DC Drake and Damien Kane with Steiner delivering a crushing clothesline to Kane followed up by a Douglas belly to belly suplex at the 11 minute mark.

Even with bandaged ribs and a patch over his eye, Hercules Alaya gets the win and retains the Puerto Rico Title over a game Baron Mikel Siculina after a small package.  Alaya limps outside the ring and is attacked by the unpredictable Java Rook, who fights Alaya the whole way back to the dressing room.

Chicky Starr finally gets his revenge over the masked Mr. Canada getting the pin and the win after a top rope drop kick at the 13 minute mark.  Mr. Canada finally unmasks and it is shown to be...Tony Parisi.  Tony quickly runs away to the locker room after being bombarded by trash.

INTERMISSION to put up the steel cage

Harley Race and Bruiser Brody fight before they get into the cage, fight in the cage, and fight after they leave the cage.  Both men are wearing the crimson mask and neither man takes a backward step in the ring.  Harley gets a the victory after a diving headbutt from the top rope on Bruiser but grabs the tights just in case.  Brody, upset from the tights and the loss fights Harley back up the aisle in a match that the crowd ate up with a spoon.

INTERMISSION for the cage to come back down

The Assassins with the manager El Profe lost their North American Tag Team Titles to the team of the Invaders.  In a struggle between the two masked teams the Invaders come out on top after catching an Assassin with some big double team moves, ending up with a huge elbow from Invader III for the win over Assassin II.  As the Invaders are celebrating their win of the North American Tag Team Titles, El Profe is berating his Assassins.  Two recent losses, to the Invaders and the NWA World Tag Team Champions Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood have him at his wits end.  He takes the mike and gives a high sign to the back.  Out of the locker room comes the Super Medicos who beat up and unmask the Assassins showing them to be Bill Smithson and Rick Ferrera.  Smithson and Ferrera run to the locker room as Profe tells the fans that the Super Medicos are his new team and everyone from the Invaders to Steamboat and Youngblood had best watch out.

In the file of something you thought you would never see, Abdullah the Butcher and the pride of Puerto Rico, Carlos Colon team up to wrestle the dangerous duo of Kamala the Ugandan Giant and The Great Kabuki with their manager Barbaras.  The match goes back and forth, with Kamala and Abdullah teaming up and Kabuki and Colon fighting.  The referee is very loose with the rules and the men are all over the arena floor.  Barbaras tries to get his shots in, but the first time he tries with Abby he eats a huge right hand and isn’t heard from for a good while.  Colon and Kabuki are bleeding as well as Abby and Kamala.  The Butcher is his usual self, with his pencil digging and gouging in both of his opponents.  Near the end Carlos is holding Kabuki for a chair shot from the Butcher.  Kabuki gets out of the way and Carlos eats the chair.  Kamala barley fights off Abdullah long enough for Kabuki to get the win over the Colon.  Kabuki, Kamala and Barbaras hit the high road, dodging objects from a vengeful crowd, as Carlos tries to recover from the chair shot.  He looks at Abdullah, who has the same empty stare that he always does and tries to talk to him.  Looks like the madman didn’t take well to what Carlos said because they are fighting.  Abdullah is carving into Carlos and the crowd is going crazy.  The Invaders rush to the ring sending Abby packing.  The new Tag Champs help a beaten, battered and bloody Colon to the back.

The main event is the ultimate underdog, a man whose heart is shown each time he comes to the ring, Jack Venneo against NWA World Heavyweight Champion David Von Erich.  Venneo is all heart and takes control when he can hit and run from the larger Von Erich, but the bigger man, the Champion eventually wears down the challenger.  Venneo is pinned after the iron claw to the head, but does not give up.  The crowd applauds both men, and David raises the hand of the underdog Venneo to end the card.  Hugo tells the fans that they will be back in late march and tells them to watch SUPER ESTRELLAS OF LUCHA LIBRE each week to find out about the card.

I am liking how you capture the feel of WWC. Abby and Colon is not a team I expect and it looks nice. The Brody/Race....how many of us are doing this feud? It could be feud of the year, lol. Blood and guts galore here as it should be.

Great card!  Even wounded Ayala got the job done...Starr finally overcomes Canada...Race/Brody was just brutal...Congrats to the Invaders, but the Super Medicos will be tough to beat...Carlos should have known better...Great showing for Venneno in a losing effort...Nice work James!

Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience!

Douglas and Steiner are getting the chance to work in front of an enthusiastic crowd here in PR. Like tour treatment of them. Too bad for Parisi. Congrats to The Invaders. Hope The Super Medicos are better for Profe. Race, Brody, and that cage provided the classic you knew they would. You just knew Abby and Colon was a train wreck waiting to happen. But you were hoping to see it, as well.

Great card.
