Georgia TV 2/16/83 Don't Pull on Superstar's Chain
Feb 17th, 2013, 3:36pm

Georgia Championship Wrestling
A Proud Member of the NWA
Hosted by: Jim Ross and Freddie Miller
Taped: February 16, 1983 @ WTBS Studios
Broadcast: February 16, 1983 on WTBS @ 6:05-8:05

Jim Ross and Freddie Miller welcome the fans to the show.

They are soon joined on the set by Masked Superstar, They look at clips from
last week's involvement with Viper Gold, where Superstar came out with a
stretcher. 'Star says that he has been referred to as a masked demon at points
in his career. The truth, though, is that behind this mask lies a man and a
father. When he got the message that a special needs young man needed a visit,
the man and father chain was pulled. He was attacked by numerous members of that
Viper Gold scum. They didn't have the guts to face him straight up in the ring.
They had to take advantage of a sincere kindness. Well, Superstar says, the ring
were things should have happened is right there today. 'Star makes a challenge
to any Viper Gold member with the kahunahs needed to get out here sometime on
today's program. This stretcher will be needed by those goons and he will have
it right at the ready.

Miller mentions that the program today will have a special tag match as the
other main event. Jesse Barr and Ron Bass will face Jack and Jery Brisco. The
winner will face the NWA World Tag Team Champions this Sunday night in Augusta.
Ross says there are other issues that will be addressed and tells the fans not
to miss a minute of the action.

******COMMERCIALS******

Miller recalls for the fans that, last week, it was announced that Bob Backlund
would defend the National Television Title in a match against a member of
Midnight Express, Inc. Also, to prevent the other members from interferring,
Wendell Cooley and Steve Olsonoski would have a tag match with the remaining
ME'ers, as well.

*Steve O/Wendell Cooley vs. Norvell Austin/Rip Rogers
A mistake by Rogers and Austin costs them here. They crack heads on a criss
cross @ 8:00 when Olsonoski rolls away. Rogers, the legal man, is cradled by O @
8:11.

After the match. Cooley and Olsonoski are met at ringside by Miller. The three
are talking, when Rogers and Austin make another appearance. They blinside the
winners and beat them down. Austin pulls out two buckets from under the ring. He
and Rogers take yellow paint out of the buckets and paint streaks down Cooley's
and O's backs. Miller asks Austin how he, of all people, can stand to do this.
Norvell tells the announcer he will do wahtever it takes to be a winner. Miller
calls for a commercial break, as the heels leave.

******COMMERCIALS******

*Tony Atlas defeats Bob Marcus with a flying reverse forearm smash @ 6:47. The
impact of the move is enhanced due to Atlas wearing a cast on his right arm
.

Tony talks with Ross at the desk. Atlas assures the fans that doctors have
okayed him to wrestle with this cast. He relives Jim Duggan smashing his hand
with a ring tool last week on TV. He says that he can't wait to "lay a hurtin'"
on all the Viper Gold members that were involved. His last remark is that all
this trouble that will happen can be laid at the feet of Hacksaw.

Ross says that a young Southern stud, Dynamite Wayne Ferris, makes his Georgia
Championship Wrestling debut next.

******COMMERCIALS******

*Dynamite Wayne Ferris defeats Vinnie Valentino with a spiining neckbreaker @
6:11.

Ferris talks with Miller in the ring. He says he is so happy to be back in the
nice, warm South. He had recently been in Canada, where it is colder than
Brunhilda's.... Miller stops Ferris before he can finish. Ferris smiles and says
the women are prettier but just as dumb as the Canadian broads were, though. He
comes down here and expects the ladies to have the good sense to know Dynamite
is Grade A Beef. But, they are cheering for that Canadian goof, Armand Rougeau.
Ferris guesses he will have to show everybody that the best wrestlers are
American born and American bred.

Miller says Masked Superstar will face a member of Viper Gold next.

******COMMERCIALS******

Non-Title Match
*Masked Superstar vs, Mike Rotundo w/J.J.Dillon
Rotundo and 'Star go at it hard in this match. The young Rotundo doesn't get the
veteran masked man worn down enough. He lifts him into position for an airplane
spin. Superstar is able to slide down and hook Rotundo into a backslide for the
pin @ 9:23. (One commercial break)

Ted Dibiase comes out and hits 'Star from behind with the stretcher that the
National Champ brought to the ring. He and Rotundo, along with Dillon start a
beatdown. Bob Roop comes in and evens the odds. Dillon bails. The first hour
ends with Rotundo getting a shoulder breaker and DiBiase being in the cobra
clutch.

END OF FIRST HOUR

"Georgia Championship Wrestling"
Second Hour

Thunderbolt Patterson joins Ross and Miller at the desk. They look at clips from
a match in Macon where The Mongolian Stomper comes down during a match Patterson
is in, and starts a fight. Patterson says that he and Stomper have locked horns
before and, evidentally, there is some unfinished business. The big man needs to
realize something, though. He was the reason that The Germans and those
Canadians were sent packing. Bolt says he will be happy to give the same deal to
Stomper.

A loudly dressed man comes to the desk. Miller identifies him to fans as
Gorgeous George, Jr. Ross says that George has managed The Stomper in the past.
George grabs the mike and tells the "peons out there he is doing just that
again". He says that Patterson is barking up the wrong tree when he compares The
Mongolian Stomper to any of the foes he has vanquished before. Stomper is the
greatest athlete ever. Patterson doesn't have "a snowball in the Bahamas chance
of beating him". George says Patterson doesn't have what it takes.

Patterson grabs the manager by the collar, saying he will show him what he has.
Stomper comes in from behind and takes out Patterson. He runs 'Bolt into the
logo backdrop several times. George tells Patterson to "show him and Stomper
what he has right now". Stomper drags Patterson to the ring and rolls him in.
Ross says that we seem to be having a different first match and it will start
after this.

******COMMERCIALS******

*The Mongolian Stomper w/Gorgeous George Jr. vs. Thunderbolt Patterson
Stomper beats Patterson down quite a bit more before Bolt stages a rally. He
gets his licks in, as well. Cameras, seats, ropes, and cables are the weapons of
choice. Patrick doesn't call anything out of bounds. The match is officially
declared a DOUBLE DISQUALIFICATION @ 7:37.

After the bell, Wayne Ferris comes out. Together, Stomper and Ferris lift
Thunderbolt into a double vertical suplex on the floor. Patterson is left face
down by George, Ferris and the man from Mongolia, as Ross calls for the screen
to go black.

******COMMERCIAL******

*Paul Orndorff w/J. J. Dillon defeats D.J. Peterson with a piledriver @ 5:39.

Dillon and Orndorff join Miller at ringside. Orndorff looks distressed so Dillon
does the talking. He says that the powers that be here in Georgia know that
Viper Gold taking over is only a matter fo time. They are putting as many
obstacles in front of us as they can. One is that Paul Orndorff must earn
another shot at any title after he lost a recent match to The Superstar, thanks
to interference from Tony Atlas. Furthermore, they are saying we must beat
Wrestling II some more to get those shots.

Dillon says that he has submitted a counter-offer to the promoters. A young man
enters the shot and gives Dillon an envelope. Dillon opens it and takes out some
papers. He shows them to Orndorff and they both smile. The upcoming matches with
II will be lumberjack matches. Orndorff pipes up that evrything that could
happen for the bad of Viper Gold will be taken care of now. Dillon and The Total
Legend laugh, as they leave.

Ross says that Bob Backlund will defend the National Television Title next,

******COMMERCIALS******

National Television Title
Bob Backlund (c) vs. Randy Rose
Backlund wins the match after Rose misses a running leg drop. Backlund counters
with a Northern Lights suplex for the pin @ 8:00.

After the match, Backlund has his hand raised by Patrick. Rogers and Austin
storm the ring. Backlund fights back but the three prove to be too much.
Backlund is lifted up by Rose in a brianbuster. Rogers and Austin are grabbing
the legs when Olsonoski and Cooley hit the ring, swinging the buckets from
earlier. The ME bails and Ross wonders if this won't be over until someone gets
seriously put under.

The tag match to see who faces Steamboat and Youngblood in Augusta is next.

******COMMERCIALS******

*Jesse Barr/Cowboy Ron Bass w/Sir Oliver Humperdink vs. Jack/Jerry Brisco
Ross mentions that this match happened due to the concerns over recent injuries
to Jerry Brisco. Barr and Bass take advantage of those injuries early on. Jack
manages to hurt Barr's right knee when he is in there. Humperdink thinks the
National champs are too close to winning late. He takes Bass's bullwhip, Betsy,
from the corner and tries to clobber Jerry with it. He hits Barr instead. Jerry
pins Barr with an Oklahoma roll @ 14:04. (Two commercial breaks)

Bobby Duncum charges the ring but backs off when he sees Dick Slater, wearing
the hockey mask and carrying a hockey stick, blocking his path. The Briscos
shout from the ring that they are ready to be World Tag Champs again. Ross and
Miller tell the fans they will see them at the matches.

Don't take this the wrong way, but recently your shows were just  missing something as compared to what you had done with 1982.  However,  this show was a BIG REBOUND!  AWESOME SHOW!
