This February update starts at the end of January as the last day of the month saw the beginning of a number of double shots to start the shortest month of the year. Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Coastal Carolina University Kimbel Arena Thursday January 31st 1983 Bell 730pm In the main event, Rowdy Roddy Piper faced his arch rival, Magnum Terry Allen. Before the match, Piper grabbed the microphone, got in Allen’s face and started degrading him, South Carolina and Southern Culture in general. Piper poked Allen in the chest telling him he was going to give him the beating of his life. On the second poke, Allen grabbed Piper’s finger and popped the spit out of his rival’s mouth. The war was on. Both men disregarded the rules and took the fight as much outside of the ring as inside. With both men bleeding and having destroyed a few chairs and a small table at ringside, Referee Tommy Young could no longer keep both men from gouging each other and disqualified both of them at 20:43. The fight continued until the locker room emptied and both men had to be pulled apart. The longtime rivals were anxious to get at one another from the start. Once the bell rang the Andersons displayed why they are the most feared men in wrestling as they worked on Jones, trapping him and at times triple teaming him. But the most aggressive pairing was Wahoo and Ole Anderson. Both men busted each other open. The end came when Weaver trapped Gene Anderson in the sleeper while Jones and Arn battled and Wahoo and Ole took out old frustrations on each other. The fan favorites picked up the win at 17:03. Piper and Allen had to be held back by their teammates before the match started and didn’t face each other until almost 10 minutes in. While Piper was working over Youngblood, he taunted Allen. After Allen busted open The Iron Sheik he looked over at Piper and said “You’re next!” Allen then purposely threw Sheik over into the corner so he could tag in Piper. Piper was reluctant at first, but cautiously got in the ring. The two men attacked each other, rolling all over the ring and falling out of the ring. When Sheik and Ladd went over to the combatants, Youngblood and Davidson went over there as well and a melee broke out. Piper and Allen got back into the ring and the battle outside the ring eventually dissipated. At one point, Allen trapped Piper in the ropes and pummeled him, busting him open. Ladd was able to pull Allen off which brought in Davidson and Youngblood and all six men were fighting in the ring. Referee Tommy Young was thrown from the ring and disqualified both teams at 16:24. When Allen didn’t respond, Piper prepped the pipes and started playing to the boos and obscenities of the crowd. Then the Coliseum erupted. Allen stormed from the front concession area of the arena and caught the maestro off guard breaking up the music with a punch to the side of the head. Allen grabbed the pipes and smashed them against the turnbuckles then turned his attention to the charging and angry Piper. Piper hadn’t gotten his kilt off yet as the war began. The two men fought, not wrestled, all over the ring and out at ringside. Piper had the advantage and one point picked up a piece of his bagpipes and smashed Allen in the head with it outside of the ring. Allen busted open, responded by posting Piper to all four ring posts. Now both men were bleeding and the fans were eating it up. With pieces of bagpipes all over the ring area they were often times used as weapons as both men attacked each other. When Piper snared Allen in a sleeper, Allen used a jawjacker to get out of it, then whipped Piper in the ropes and delivered his Belly-to-Belly Suplex and pinned his rival at 21:13. Allen turned his back on Piper and raised his hands and the hometown boy celebrated with his 6 thousand of his fans and neighbors. Piper didn’t wait to protest the decision he attacked Allen from behind and first tied him in the ropes and beat him, then quickly undid the ropes pounded the victor’s head into the mat. Piper then grabbed one of the wooden horns from the bagpipes and savaged Allen with it. Referee Tommy Young couldn’t pull Piper off of him and called for help. But help came in the form of the Iron Sheik, who was no help for Young at all. Sheik stomped Allen while Piper punched him. Mark Youngblood and Harley Davidson along with Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson and Mighty Igor came out to chase away Piper and Sheik. Wahoo outwrestled Hogan for the early going of the match and this frustrated the challenger. Rogers tried to advise Hogan to calm down but Hogan continued to charge head on at Wahoo with only limited success. Eventually Hogan’s chest was bright red from Wahoo’s chops, Hogan out of desperation threw the champion out of the ring. Hogan was able to bust Wahoo open by slamming him repeatedly into the ring post. Hogan felt he was in control and cockily got back into the ring. Wahoo followed him back in. After tasting his own blood, McDaniel exploded on Hogan with Chops and eventually, opened up the big man. Rogers could see this chance was slipping from his charge and tried to hit Wahoo with his walking stick. Wahoo grabbed the stick and instead hit Hogan with it. He then broke the stick over his knee and was going after Hogan again with the referee disqualified him at 20:49 for his first attack on Hogan with the stick. Rogers persuaded Hogan he wanted no part of the still champion when the anger is upon him and the two retreated. Wahoo stood in the ring, bleeding, holding part of the walking stick and the US Title watching the villains retreat. Harley Davidson comes out and says, “I am terribly sorry SheikyBaby has lost his mind thinking he beat me within an inch of my life, but I’d like to give his dumbbells here a try.” Sheik responded, by saying that is only fitting a “dumbbell for a dumbbell”. Davidson lifted the weights and kept them in motion for nearly 10 seconds until The Sheik hit him in the stomach and started attacking him leaving him lying on the floor. Andre continues that he also doesn’t like what he sees with Hulk Hogan and Buddy Rogers. -0- Andre The Giant On MACW, following the Ladd confrontation, Andre teamed with buddy The Mighty Igor and beat Bob and Joe Marcus pretty easily…later in the show, Hulk Hogan scoffed at the idea of Igor and Andre as a team and belittled Igor’s strength. On WWW, while The Elite members Hulk Hogan and Larry Zbyszko along Buddy Rogers are discussing their plans for domination, out walks Andre the Giant. Andre says he is shocked at the Hogan’s personality change over the last six months or so. “Roddy Piper has always been nuts! Larry Zbyszko, you are nothing more than a con artist, and Buddy Rogers you’ve always been a snake, but you, Hogan, you were my friend. I don’t know what Rogers has done to you, but I don’t like it.” Hogan stays quiet “And what are you doing to do about it?” Challenges Rogers. “Look Giant, the business between Hulk and myself is none of your affair. If you want to stay healthy and not get hurt, you’d best leave this area and never come back!” “ROGERS!!!!” Andre bellows as Sandy Scott and a half dozen wrestlers come out. “I HAVE NEVER RUN IN MY LIFE…” Hogan looks worried. Then Andre lifts Rogers up by the collar, “I AM NOT AFRAID OF YOU, ROGERS!” “Hey, you can’t that to him you big goof,” Larry Zybszko says as he and Scott with six other men grab Andre. Hogan stands there. Andre lets go of Rogers. “LET GO OF ME!!!!!” Andre yells and waves his arms sending the men fleeing. Andre looks at Hogan and points his finger at him and says this isn’t over. -0- United States Heavyweight Title On MACW, Hogan claims Buddy Roger’s secret strategy will bring him the United States Heavyweight title. He says Wahoo is tough but no one is tougher than he is and will prove it, when he trashes McDaniel and wins back his belt. Piper was furious. He goes to Caudle and a gloating Crockett and demands Allen face him next week on television. Piper says he’ll put up 10grand if Allen puts up 10grand. Allen and Jones come back out. Jones chides Piper, “Hey Piper, I know what your best move is now…being pinned!” Piper looks at Jones and tells him, “Hey Dwarf, your lucky streak is about over!” Allen tells Piper he accepts and will put up 10 grand to face Piper in the ring next week! ========End of TV for 2/5========== Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling Norfolk, Virginia Norfolk Scope Thursday February 7, 1983 Bell 7:30pm A Texas-Tornado tag team match wowed the 8thousand and some change at the Norfolk Scope Arena as the hated Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mid Atlantic Champion, The Iron Sheik took on the increasingly popular Harley-Davidson and Chesapeake’s own, Magnum Terry Allen. Under the rules all four men were allowed in the ring at the same time and there was no disqualification so the match ends when one man is pinned. The match was a brawl from start to finish. The rivals went at each other at first with Davidson throwing the Sheik out of the ring and smashing him from post to post. Allen and Piper just tore into each other with Allen getting the upper hand. Eventually, the teams would switch off and Piper seemed to get the advantage over Harley…while Allen beat the dogslobber out of The Shiek. Seeing the Sheik in trouble, Piper left Davidson and blindsided Allen. The two fell out of the ring and continued their war. When The Iron Sheik looked to follow Piper and Allen out of the ring he was stopped by Davidson. The two fought in the ring, Davidson kept trying to get Sheik’s boot off, meanwhile Piper and Allen busted each other up outside of the ring. Later, The Iron Sheik looked to load his boot, but Harley caught the kick, knocked the Iranian to the mat and was able to finally get the loaded boot off. Outside the ring, Norfolk’s Finest, had to keep the fans from interfering with Piper and Magnum. Piper rammed Allen’s head repeatedly into the steel post and then would turn around and taunt the fans. In the ring, Iron Sheik was hiding behind referee Sonny Fargo and ironically complaining that Harley was chasing him with a loaded boot. Back outside the ring while a bleeding Piper was jawing at the fans, the bloody Allen recovered and grabbed a chair. As Piper turned around was clocked cold by Allen. The sound of the chair hitting Piper’s head rang throughout the Scope and got a gasp from the fans. It even caught the attention of Fargo who turned away from Davidson and Sheik. While Fargo turned away Davidson nailed the Sheik with the loaded boot and covered him. Fargo turned around to see Davidson cover Iron Sheik and made the pin at 21:14 while Allen, with the chair in his hand, stood over Piper and taunted him as the crowd cheered. Davidson grabbed Allen and pulled him away from Piper and the two went back to the dressing room as the crowd cheered. From the start of the match, Igor wanted to test his strength against Hogan, but The Hulkster wanted no part of it. Igor, with the fans support, was able to get the advantage over Hogan who seemed flustered at his inability to budge his older adversary. Hogan did get in a scattered offense in, but usually due to underhanded tactics. Late in the match, after repeated taunts of chicken by the fans, Hogan finally locked up with Igor in a test of strength. The test started very evenly as both me applied pressure. Both men were at a stalemate about a minute into it, but Igor, with encouragement from the fans, started to get the upper hand. Hogan, sensing he could be in trouble looked at Rogers at ringside, Rogers jumped up on the ring apron. With referee Sonny Fargo distracted Rogers, Hogan kicked Igor in the groin in hopes of being released, but Igor held on! Hogan surprised the tactic only weakened his opponent, tried to take the advantage. When the crowd booed Hogan’s actions, Fargo turned around towards the wrestlers only to see Hogan and a visibly shook up Igor still locked together. Rogers grabbed Fargo to get his attention again away from the match. Hogan with Fargo distracted, kicked Igor low again…smiling, he then tried to pull away from his opponent, but IGOR STILL HELD ON! The fans booed even louder at Hogan’s infraction which again got Fargo’s attention. Fargo turns to see an angry Igor huffing and puffing, mustering all of his strength and rebuilding his advantage in the fingerlocking test of strength. Hogan is near panic as Igor is coming back! Rogers again grabs Fargo. Sonny has had enough of Rogers and orders him off the ring apron. In the meantime, Hogan kicks Igor low for a third time. This time the longtime fan favorite lets go and falls. Rogers turns to see Igor go down and Hogan goes ballistic on his fallen foe. He stomps and kicks Igor who cannot recover. Hogan whips him into the ropes and floors him with a massive clothesline, then flexes his muscles. Hulk then delivers the leg drop and covers him for the pin at 15:12. Hogan knows he has been showed up by the fan favorite and attacks him after the pin. Rogers distracts Fargo as the assault goes on. With Rogers arguing with Fargo and Hogan beating on Igor neither of them are paying attention to what is going on in the arena. The crowd ROARS with cheers and excitement as ANDRE the GIANT makes his way to the ring and he isn’t happy. Andre gets up on the ring apron and Rogers is the first to see him. Rogers with an “Oh Crap!” look on his face leaves the ring. Andre ignores him and walks over to Hogan. Andre grabs Hogan by the back of his head and pulls him off of Igor and showing a swiftness that is amazing for his size and years, in one move turns Hogan around and clobbers him with a huge right hand. The audience blows the roof off the Richmond Coliseum! Hogan is reeling from Andre’s onslaught. After Andre gets 3 to 5 good shots in on Hogan, Rogers, and Larry Zbyszko who came to ringside, get Hogan out of the ring and they retreat to the dressing room. Andre checks on his friend Igor and gets him to his feet. Andre raises Igor’s hand as the crowd cheers. The faceoff between the two was pretty even, but when Mark tagged in Andre, Larry scurried back to his corner and tried to tag in Hogan, who jumped off the ring apron and talked to Rogers. Zbyszko was infuriated at his partner and manager who seemed ambivalent about his pleas responding with an almost “just do your best” kind of attitude. Andre tossed Z around like a rag doll. Andre tagged Youngblood back in who went to work on Zbyszko. Zbyszko finally was able to tag in Hogan who pounded on Mark. Zbyszko and Hogan tagged in and out and double teamed the young champion. After Zbyszko tagged in Hogan, Mark was able to escape thru Hogan’s legs and tagged in Andre. Hogan tried to back off but Andre wasted no time in attacking Hogan.
