"Portland Wrestling", 2/23/83
Feb 22nd, 2013, 5:15pm

“Portland Wrestling”
Sports Arena
Portland, OR
2/23/83

Don Coss and Dutch Savage open the show.

Coss, “Welcome to the 'House of Action'! The fans are on the edge of their seats tonight. The 'Playboy' is in action in the main event. He meets the man who has had his number, Matt Borne. Dutch, Matt has gotten the better of Rose, will it continue?”

Savage, “We all hope so. Rose is a great wrestler, but her takes so many shortcuts and he's just so annoying. I'm rooting for Borne, I'm not even going to try to hide that.”

Coss, “We will also talk about the 'Portland Special'. Let's get things started.”

Match #1
The Assassin w/”Playboy” Buddy Rose def. Steve Pardee, w/Piledriver

Billy Jack and Stan Stasiak are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us are the tag team champions. Billy Jack and Stan Stasiak may face their toughest challenge next Tuesday. They meet the New Zealand Sheepherders at the 'Portland Special'. Gentlemen, it won't be easy.”

BJ, “Those two wild men want our titles, Stan and I are ready! We like to fight, just like the Sheepherders! We aren't taking a backwards step.”

Staskiak, “Billy's right. We aren't going to back down from the Sheepherders. We have to be cautious, because they are wild, but we're ready for them. The fans are going to see a great match, and they are going to see us leave with the titles.”

Coss, “Billy Jack and the 'Crusher' vs. the Sheepherders on Tuesday, at the 'Portland Special'. Now let's see the Champs in the ring.”

Match #2
Non-Title Match
Billy Jack and Stan Stasiak (Northwest Tag Team Champions) def. Tiny Anderson and Verne Seibert, Billy Jack w/Full Nelson vs. Seibert

The New Zealand Sheepherders are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss. “With us are the Challengers on Tuesday night. The New Zealand Sheepherders have destroyed everything in their path since returning to the Northwest. Gentlemen, you get your title shot, are you ready?”

Miller, “Ohhhh! Bloody Don Coss, ready, ready? The Sheepherders are always ready for a fight! Billy Jack and Staiask, your night is coming! My cousin and me are going to take those titles and leave you in a bloody mess, ohhhhhhh!”

Williams, “Yeaaa! Tuesday night, Stasiak and Billy Jack, the Sheepherders are coming and we're ready for you! Count on that! Will e the Champions!”

Coss, “What a night it will be!”

Match #3
The New Zealand Sheepherders def. Terry Adonis and Pat McGinnis, w/Double Gutbuster vs. Adonis

Rip Oliver is in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “Welcome to the Crow's Nest, Mr. Oliver, where is the 'Playboy'?”

Oliver, “Where do you think he is? He's getting ready to pound on Borne, that's where he is!”

Coss, “O.K. Let's talk about you. You put the title on the line against Jimmy Snuka on Tuesday, Many people call the 'Superfly' the 'uncrowned champion'.”

Oliver, “That's exactly what he is, uncrowned, and that's how he's going to stay! That savage comes here and thinks he can beat a thinking wrestler lime me, no way! Let him do back to the islands and pick coconuts, he can't wrestle and he can't beat me!”

Coss, “Mr. Oliver, you may believe that, but you better not take Snuka for granted.”

Oliver, “You go on believing that! You and Savage want us all to fail, but it won't happen, and next week, you're going to have to interview, Rip Oliver, the Northwest Champion...STILL!”

Coss, “Maybe so.”

Match #4
Non-Title Match
Rip Oliver (Northwest Champion) def. Buck Ramstead, w/Shoulderbreaker

Coss, “Our main event is next.”

Main Event, Two out of Three Falls
“Playboy” Buddy Rose vs. Matt Borne

First Fall-Rose dominates the really action. He gets several two counts, Borne kicks out before referee Sandy Barr counts three. Rose tries for a piledriver, but Borne blocks it. He then traps the 'Playboy' in a small package. Barr counts three! Rose is livid, and Borne is up one fall to none.
Winner-Matt Borne

Jimmy Snuka is in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us is Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka. Jimmy, you take on Rip Oliver on Tuesday night. You hear him out here earlier. He doesn't seem to think you pose much of a challenge.”

Sunka, “Let him think that. I've come so close to taking that title, and Oliver cheats his way out of it. I'm ready for anything he tries. The fans have been behind me, and I won't let them down! Oliver. It's my time and I will be the Champion on Tuesday!”

Coss, “The 'Superfly' is ready for the 'Crippler'! It's going to be a great night!”

Second Fall-Rose attacks Borne before the bell. This fall is all Rose. He pounds away at Borne and wins with the Billy Robinson Backbreaker.
Winner-Buddy Rose

Coss and Savage are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “Partner, Don Coss has been running 'Portland Specials' for a long, long time, but this Tuesday, we may be seeing the best one ever. Two big title matches.”

Savage, “You know, when you're a retired wrestler, you always want to cling to the 'Glory Days'. I wrestled on a lot of 'Specials' and I had some great matches, but you're right, this one might be the best. The Sheepherders vs. Billy and Stan is great, but then toss in Oliver and Snuka and you better get your tickets early.”

Coss, “That's right. There are a few, and mean a few, tickets left. Get out to Sandy Barr's Flea market tomorrow and get one. They won't last until next week. We also have one more match to add to the card. It's a rematch from last week's television program, Kevin Kelly takes on Gary Royal, They couldn't determine a winner last week, we'll see what happens on Tuesday. Now let's to our third fall.”

Third Fall-This is a brawl. Wrestling goes out the window. Sandy Barr tries to control the action, but he has no chance. He disqualifies both men.
Result-Double Disqualification

Matt Borne takes the mike from Don Owen.

Borne, “Rose, that's not enough! I know I can beat you again! Let's do this again on Tuesday!”

Rose tries to beg off.

Owen, “That sounds good to me. We need one more match, and neither one of you are signed to wrestle. I think the fans would love it.”

Borne is thrilled and Rose continues to argue.

Coss closes the show.

Coss, “WOW! It just gets better, Buddy Rose vs. Matt Borne! Fans, get out here on Tuesday, it will be a night to remember!”

Man, I just knew that Borne had rose's number. Great matches and promos form Stasiak/Haynes and The Sheepherders. The Special will rock.

Every Sunday, 10:00 until 2:00 at the Sports Arena on North Chataqua Blvd. Buy your tickets at the concession stand.

Apparently it still exists, run by Josh Barr, Sandy's grandson, maybe.
