Stampede TV El Canek Vs Dynamite Kid
Feb 23rd, 2013, 9:56am

Stampede Wrestling
Promoted By: The Foothills Athletic Club
Promoting: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, North West Territories, Montana
Promoter: Stu Hart
Under the Auspices of the American Wrestling Association, Verne Gagne President
Taped on: Friday February 22 1983
Aired on: Saturday February 23 1983
Taped At: The Victoria Pavilion Calgary, Alberta, Aired in Syndication throughout Canada and North Western United States.
Announcer: Ed Whalen, Jim Davies (ring Announcer)

**The opening plays, showing several Stampede stars of past and present, in action in short clips. We then join Ed Whalen sitting at the announcer's table at ringside.  Ed Whalen says he is happy to be back for another week in Stampede Wrestling and what a week of action. It is going to be a ring-a-ding-dong-dandy of a show. **

1. Johnny Smith b. Phil Lafleur with a piledriver while wrestling more aggressively than usual.

Johnny Smith refuses to answer Ed Whalen’s questions, instead grabs the mic and says now things change for the better, before thrusting it back at Whalen and leaving.

2. Owen Hart b. Dick Steinborn with a missile dropkick

Owen Hart tells Ed Whalen that while he has not fared the best against Gallant, Hart is a fighter and every match Hart loses, makes him smarter. Soon enough Gallant will get too cocky and when he does, Hart will be the one with his arm raised. As for Gallant’s partner, Barry Orton, Orton should understand as a second generation wrestler like Hart….there is always family to back him up.
/
3. Ben Doon McDonald with “Mean” Mike Shaw b. Ben Bassarab by DQ after Ron Ritchie attempts to get revenge on McDonald for his attack last week. He gets the first shot, but it does not last long before Shaw joins in, making it a two on one against Ritchie. That 2 on 1 attack itself does not last long before “The Anvil” Jim Neidhart comes to the rescue of Ritchie, running off Shaw & McDonald.

Ron Ritchie warned people last week that he was here to defend Canada against those who want to trash it, same with Stamped Wrestling. Mike Shaw and Ben Doon McDonald want to come here and attack people and make statements…well…Ritchie and Neidhart will make some statements of their own. Neidhart says he has been waiting to do a little head stomping and now it is going to happen to Shaw and McDonald.

4. El Canek wrestles to a 20 minute time limit with Dynamite Kid

JR Foley returns to Stampede telling Ed Whalen he has been touring back home and has found the greatest wrestler in the world today. That man will be revealed when the time comes but until then, he wants to show the world his other new acquisition. Out comes The Masters of Disaster, Kerry Brown and Duke Myers. Foley explains this team is the most decorated tag team in the Canada and now they are back under his managerial brain, they will be the International tag champions again in short time. Before leaving, he tells Whalen they are now off to go to a party….and Whalen is not invited.
/
5. Bruce Hart  b. Hubert Gallant with a body splash from the top rope. “Gorgeous” Goldie Rogers comes to argue with Hart, but is knocked down off the ring apron by Bruce’s brother Owen. The four men brawl to the back.
/
/
Ending the show with a fade off to Ed Whalen saying “In the meantime….and in between time...that’s it…for another edition…of Stampede wrestling…Bye now”.

Looks like Ito is on the side of right. Canek and Kid was a great bout and I hope the fans get to see it again. Owen seems to be coming into his own. Ritchie and Neidhart may be the team of the future but the duo of right now has to be Myers and Brown. The changing attitude of Johnny Smith bears watching.
