Championship Wrestling from Florida presents: Southern Championship Wrestling Telecast 2/23/83 across the Sunshine State with Gordon Solie, Buddy Colt, and Barbara Cleary *Matches sanctioned by the AWA, the Major League of Professional Wrestling* Interviews and Announcements: - Ron Garvin tells Gordon that he’s not surprised that “Burger King” Jerry Lawler isn’t here this week. “It’s really no surprise that the AWA World Champion, Jerry Lawler doesn’t have the gumption to come to Florida. Hot weather and real wrestling have always been something that makes the Burger King turn a little green. But if you ever grow a set of guts and come down to face the REAL One Man Gang, you may show up green, but you’ll be leaving black and blue.” - The Assassin #1 tells Buddy that the Assassins are glad to see that the Malenkos have finally gotten out of their diapers and are ready to step up into the big leagues. “The way I see it, the Assassins have been one of the top tag teams in this sport for longer than you two have been taking breaths. And when we meet March 10th in the Bayfront Center, your daddy will get to make one of two choices; see one of your arms ripped off in a hammer lock or see one of your necks snapped in a swinging full nelson. Boris, the choice is yours.” - Florida Heavyweight Champion Butch Reed tells Barbara that even in his dreams he is seeing the Missing Link or Mr. Pogo. “Every night Barbara, I’m seeing those boys of King Curtis’. Pogo and Link. Link and Pogo. Every night they are trying to beat me down and take this Florida title. Well March 10th, I’ll fight you both. Make it two on one Eddie Graham, and which ever man pins me can have this belt. But if I win, Iaukea, you get rid of those boys once and for all.” - In a video tape presentation the AWA World Tag Team Champions Jesse Ventura and Adrian Adonis, the East-West Connection, tells how they will be coming to Florida next week and “We’re gonna show all the wrestlers and promoters in the newest area in the AWA who the best tag team in this sport really is. It isn’t some masked goons like the Assassins. It isn’t some daddy’s boys like the Malenkos. It isn’t your old mismatched duo of George and Sweetan. The World Tag Team Champions are Adrian Adonis and the Body. And we shall be so when we leave that sweat box of a promotion.” - “the Canadian Bruiser” Bob Sweetan tells Buddy that he’s not taking the blame for the failure that is Mike George. “Last week, Mike George tried to say that it was my fault we are no longer Florida Tag Team Champions. Well I wasn’t the one who didn’t have his head in a championship match. I wasn’t the one that was so over confident that he didn’t show up to train for the opposition. You make me sick George. You make me remember why I thought you were a second class wrestler in the first place. And if you decide to have the guts the all mighty gave an earthworm, I’ll show you that myself in 3 weeks in St. Petersburg.” - Gordon is joined by the man that caused all the commotion at the end of last week’s telecast, a returning favorite of all Florida wrestling fans, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Dusty waxes about his past and what it means now. “Gordon Solie, the Dream has returned to Florida and it seems that the snakes have taken over in my absence. And I’m not talking about that Jake Roberts. He’s a snake of a different color daddy. I’m talking about that low down snake in the grass Greg Valentine. Cause Valentine, what you did to Barry Windham may have cost a young man his career in this sport. It cost Florida wrestling fans some respect in certain places in this business. And it cost you Greg Valentine a shot to be the man in this sport once again. Now don’t get me wrong Gordon. The AWA is the Major League of Professional Wrestling. It is where the big boys play, if you will. It is where the American Dream first made his name in this sport with my good friend Dick Murdoch. And if I need to remind you Greg Valentine what a Texas Outlaw is capable of, I will be happy to do so. Anytime. Anyplace Valentine, the Dream will be more than ready to get some payback for the son of another good friend, Blackjack Mulligan. Because its men like Barry Windham that are the future of this sport going into the next decade. And while the Dream still plans to be getting funky for some time, your time as champion here in Florida will be coming to an end very soon. Maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but as soon as you get an itching to put your name on the dotted line. You are gonna get the butt whippin of a lifetime, jack.” Matches for this telecast: - Terry Garvin and his Boy Tony defeat Pete Doherty and Terry Orndorff after Terry drops Pete with an atomic drop. - Assassin #1 defeats “Squire” Dave Taylor with a lifting hammer lock. - Florida TV Champion Brett Sawyer defeats Hercules Stevenson with a side Russian leg sweep. After the match, Brett is laid out again by Ron Garvin, again with only one punch. - “the Canadian Bruiser” Bob Sweetan defeats the Nightmare with a pile driver. - Florida Heavyweight Champion Butch Reed defeats “Macho Man” John Ringer with a flying shoulder tackle in a non-title match.
