GCW TV: 3/2/83 This Smells of a Cheap Cigar
Mar 2nd, 2013, 10:38am

Georgia Championship Wrestling
A Proud Member of the NWA
Hosted by: Jim Ross and Freddie Miller
Taped: March 2, 1983 @ WTBS Studios
Broadcast: March 2, 1983 on WTBS @ 6:05-8:05

The referee today is Scrappy McGowan.

Opening:
Clips of the Briscos losing the National Tag Team Titles to The Midnight Express
in Albany are shown. Jack and Jerry come out and say they will regain the belts
in time, But, today and in the near future, they will be focusing on dismantling
the House of Humperdink, who they hold responsible for them losing the belts.
Jerry calls out Jesse Barr, in particualr, for causing the distraction that led
to the loss. Barr comes out and says that Jack and Jerry are either too old or
too whiny to be in the spotlight anymore. They need to step aside for "The
Furure Shock". Ron Bass comes out and a stand off ensues. Jack challenges Barr
and Bass to face him and Jerry in singles matches on today's show.

Match 1:
Steve Olsonoski/Wendell Cooley defeat Tom Lintz/Dusty Wolfe after Olsonoski
throws Wolfe with a butterfly suplex @ 7:00.

Steve O says that he and Wendell have two colors on their mind: yellow and gold.
The ME need to pay for painting their backs yellow on TV. Cooley says that Rose,
Austin, and Rogers better polish up the gold on those National straps. They are
coming for the titles and revenge. That is a dynamite goal combination.

Match 2:
Bob Roop defeats Golden Boy Grey with a shoulder breaker @ 6:05.

Roop makes a sincere request of Mike Rotundo. He says that he knows that Rotundo
was a dedicated college athlete. Put away Dillon and all the other goons of
Viper Gold. Let's show who the better real athlete is. Wrestle him here on TV
under amateur rules. Show the world you have what it takes to be a champion on
your own, the right way.

Match 3:
Tony Atlas defeats Juan Reynosa with a bear hug @ 8:00.

After the match, Jim Duggan storms the ring and hurts the casted arm of Mr. USA
even more. He stomps on the arm while it is draped over the bottom rope. He
tells Miller at ringside that when the dogpiles came on the football field a lot
of damage could be done. He told all the fans that he would deal with Atlas
using the cast as a weapon.

Match 4:
Jerry Brisco vs. Jesse Barr w/Sir Oliver Humperdink
Brisco has Barr in a bad way by working on the right knee. Bass comes out and
snaps Jerry's neck across the top rope. Using the trunks, Barr gets a cheap win
@ 12:56.

Humperdink lights up a victory cigar. Ross mentions that Sir Oliver doesn't seem
to be enjoying the stogie. He says that it will serve its purpose. Bass goes to
the ring and jabs the lit cigar towrds the eye area of Jerry. Jack runs out to
tens to Jerry as the first hour ends. Humperdink says that is what anybody will
get if they boast about dismantling the House.

END OF THE FIRST HOUR

SECOND HOUR:

A clip airs show the cigar being driven into the eye of Jerry Brisco. An angry
Jack Brisco comes to the desk. He says he wanted to be in the ambulance that was
taking Jerry to the hospital. His little brother told him to take care of Brisco
business. He will do just that. Even the Brisco Body Shop won't be able to put
Porky's bums back together again. Bass will pay today.

Match 1:
Armand Rougeau defeats Barry Horowitz with a flying body press @ 7:29.

Rougeau mentions the attacks of Dynamite Wayne Ferris, as of late. Armand says
it is interesting that when he is straight up and looking for Ferris, his sneak
attacks don't come. Rougeau believes the reason that Ferris does what he does
the way he does is that he doesn't think he has the guts or ability to do it
straight up. He challenges Ferris to meet him eye-to-eye.

Before the next match, GCW Chairman Tex McKenzie comes out. He says that Dick
Slater got an NWA World Heavyweight Title shot against David Von Erich in Albany
because of travel problems encountered by Bob Backlund. Backlund will get a
future title shot. Beacuase of the actions of Slater in the match, though,
McKenzie has to fine him $2000. Slater comes out in the hockey mask and pays the
fine. He takes it off for the match.

Match 2:
Dick Slater defeats Vinnie Valentino with a brainbuster @ 6:05.

Slater takes the hockey mask off and puts it back on several times in the match.
It seems real eerie the way that the scientific Slater and the ruthless, brawler
Slater come into play with the mask. The mask is off during the talk with Ross.
He says that the way the HOH treated Jerry Brisco shows that stern measures have
to be undertaken, even if everybody isn't on board with him about it. Ross asks
if Slater can keep his dark side focused. Slater puts on the mask and glares.

Match 3:
Masked Superstar/Mr. Wrestling II defeat Bob/Joe Marcus when II hits the million
dollar knee lift @ 8:35.

Superstar tells Miller at ringside that many wrestlers he has talked to that
knew Iron Mike DiBiase, Ted's father, have said that Mike would not be happy
with the manhood currently being exhibited by his son. Superstar says that
wrestlers in the spotlight are role models whether they want to be or not. Ted
needs to take a good look in the mirror. Wrestling II comments about the
so-called experts who say that II needs to be more of a tag wrestler at this
point in his career. They "don't know jack" if they say he doesn't have what it
takes to put Paul Orndorff in his place.

A crew member brings a clasp envelope to II. The masked man looks at the papers
inside and leaves the set. Superstar follows.

Match 4:
Jack Brisco vs. Cowboy Ron Bass w/SOH

Bass tries for a running powerslam to put out Brisco. Jack pushes Bass into the
turnbuckles and responds with a bridge suplex to pin Bass. @ 11:00. (One
commercials break)

Brisco slides out after the match. Slater is out to provide back up. Brisco says
he isn't about ball bats or boards. He is a wrestler, He does tell Ross to
remember, however, that the hold that you can get a submission from can put you
out.

Great angle with the cigar.  I'm sure the Briscos will be fired up for revenge.

Look forward to more of Duggan - Atlas.

Dick Slater is proving why he's Mr. Unpredictable.
2 needs to shut his mouth and take a back seat.
