Georgia: Marietta 3/8/83 This Isn't Slapshot
Mar 8th, 2013, 5:14am

Cobb County Civic Center
Marietta, Georgia 3/7/83 7 PM
Referee: Nick Patrick

Johnny Mantell defeats Barry Horowitz with a flying clothesline @ 7:00.

Steve Olsonoski defeats Rip Rogers with an O’Connor roll @ 8:36.

Dynamite Wayne Ferris defeats Wendell Cooley after the early match strategy comes through by Ferris. He had worked on Cooley’s neck. After the Wildcat missed a leg drop, the spinning neckbreaker brings Ferris the win @ 9:00.

National TV Title
Bob Backlund vs. The Mongolian Stomper

This one was a real contrast in styles. Surprisingly, Backlund is able to stay with the brawling Canadian. Both men post each other and end up throwing haymakers on the floor. This one ends up a DOUBLE COUNTOUT @ 10:03.

Jerry Brisco vs. Jesse Barr w/Sir Oliver Humperdink
Jesse antagonizes Jerry in this one. The veteran Brisco loses it and throws a flying forearm at Barr after a lengthy argument with Humperdink. Barr has recovered enough to duck the move. Brisco falls to the floor. Barr slaps on a Texas Cloverleaf that he won’t break when Brisco makes the ropes. Patrick calls for the DQ bell @ 13:02.

Jack Brisco vs. Cowboy Ron Bass w/Sir Oliver Humperdink
Brisco is bloodied after both Bass and Hump get in shots with the bullwhip handle. Bass tries to use his bulldog to finish the bout. The former World Champ shoves Bass into the turnbuckles and back suplexes him on the rebound. The figure four gets Jack the W @ 12:08.

******INTERMISSION******

Bobby Duncum/Ted DiBiase w/James J. Dillon vs. Masked Superstar/Dick Slater
Dillon helps both his man DiBiase and Duncum in this one. Slater comes out in the hockey mask and, basically, wrestles a singles match against Duncum. In fact, Patrick is busy trying to break up a nasty fight on the floor late between the two. He doesn’t see Dillon pass Slater’s mask to DiBiase. Ted clobbers Superstar with it. The pin is made @ 16:17.

Good card here, Johnny. It would have been quite a sight to see Dibiase/Duncum beating the heck out of Slater/Superstar in the main event.

Backlund vs Stomper is a real dream match. On paper Stomper would seem to be a perfect fit as a challenger to Backlund and Bruno in the WWF. Gouldie worked WWWF in '66. I wonder if he left on bad terms.
