Maple Leaf Wrestling presents
"SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING"
All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance - Vincent McMahon, President

Taped at the CHCH-TV (ch. 11) studios in Hamilton ON, Friday March 15th.
Syndicated broadcast on regional channels.

We open the show with a clip from Maple Leaf Gardens - the Main Event with the brand spanking new arrivals, THE MONGOLIAN HORDE capturing the tag titles in their debut!

MA:  "Hello again, everyone!  The Caribbean Sunshine Boys not only had the misfortune of running into this Mongol buzz-saw, but, AGAIN have suffered an injury, this time Johnny Kincaid, who is out indefinitely!"

RM:  "And with the arrival of Buddy Roberts' new team on last week's episode of "Superstars of Wrestling", THIS highly-anticipated match was pre-empted, but we have the highlights here today!"

Match 1 - Moose Morowski, Kelly and Gene Kiniski vs. Chris Markoff, Krusher Khrushchev and Ho Chi Win
One fall 20 minutes
JOINED IN PROGRESS

RM:  "We have Ho Chi in HIS Maple Leaf debut, circling around big Gene Kiniski.  Fans, due to the ENORMITY of this match, it has a twenty minute time limit".

And it appears we'll have a ponderous pace with the behemoths involved.  We head to break one with Markoff taking a Canadian backbreaker from Gene.

COMMERCIAL 1 - It's the SCTV gang!  "Check your local listings for SCTV in your area!"

RM:  "Have you heard the story of when Joe Flaherty met "Chilly" Billy Cardille?"

MA:  "I can imagine, the SCTV show is a riot!  We MUST schedule an appearance in Melonville!"

In the ring, Ho Chi has a bearhug on Kelly.

RM:  "Kelly's ribs might take a bit longer to heal with Win showing a vice-like grip here..."

And an evil grin.  Kelly does still have tape on the affected area.  A bit of a grimace as he stretches & reaches back to box the Viet Cong's ears for a break.  Uncle Moose tags in & plants a big boot on Ho Chi, sending him to his derriere.

RM:  "Ho Chi Win is dressed ready to go to war, sort of guerrila, jungle-fighter look to the garb".

Krusher HAS been the legal man in this fray but is most often seeing ILLEGAL action - he pops in to thumb the Moose in the eye.  Gets an attaboy from Markoff as the senior member relieves the Ho-man.

MA:  "Technically, with the addition of the Viet Namese recruit, the team can't truly be THE SOVIETS, I'm sure they will think of something.  WAS there a tag to Khrushchev there?"

Timekeeper Pete Jarvis calls "TEN MINUTES HAVE ELAPSED" and you can't blame Terry Yorkston for missing that tag, he's got a heavy sweat going already.  Tasked with breaking up all SIX in the ring here.

MA:  "Ho Chi has the tag rope around Moose's neck as the intimidating Comrade Khrushchev is telling Terry there was a kosher tag.  Moose needs one now!"

Kleen-scalp Krusher takes advantage of Morowski's full head - uses the hair to drag him down & now has a grip on Moose's trademark sideburns!  Kelly in with some knife-edge chops to help with a break.  HE gets steered to a neutral corner for a warning...DANG, Moose lunged forward & tagged Big Thunder...BUT!

MA:  "Darn, Terry didn't see it, Gene is CLEANING HOUSE, Markoff & Win are knocked off the apron, he's got a FULL NELSON on Krusher!"

And a flustered ref trying to explain THERE WAS NO TAG.  Gene retorts THERE WAS SO!

Moose sees he needs to return for a do-over, as he steps through the ropes, Ho Chi is alarmed and flies in.  Kelly wants to sort things out, HE launches a dropkick off the top to kong the Cong...Gene now wheezing & gasping from a low-blow!  Yorkston directs HIM out,  Markoff shouts to Krusher about grabbing Moose and ramming his head into Markoff's proferred boot...The Moose drops like the proverbial sack of potatoes as Comrade Chris adjusts the boot while Krusher gets the pin!

MA:  "Over 17 minutes of hard-hitting action, fans...we need a break!"

COMMERCIAL 2 - Sponsored in part by Canada Dry, the Champagne of Ginger Ales

We now head to the interview area where gruff Dick Beddoes holds court.

DB:  "I am delighted to be back here on "Superstars of Wrestling" after that debacle of Ed Boulder being attacked.  TODAY, on the MINUS side, I have KILLER KOWALSKI, on the PLUS side, I don't get to meet his new gorilla, Spike the Impaler".

Kowalski & Mike Miller join Dick.

KK:  "We dropped Spike off at an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, I suppose they'll be out of business by the end of the day!  Now, the man they call "Bed Clothes" can zip his lip, if you DON'T mind!"

It's Miller being the squeaky wheel today.

MM:  "Maybe Spike SHOULD be here!  See, I just been told I have a defense on the 16th in Oshawa against JOHNNY POWERS!"

DB:  "A GREAT challenger, having recently beaten the likes of Chris Markoff & Sheik Ali..."

MM:  "You were TOLD "zip it"!  But Powers hasn't had the GUTS to face SPIKE!  I think he's getting a helluva break, taking a shortcut to a title match!"

DB:  "Young man, Johnny Powers has a sterling reputation going back a long time!  YOU should feel HONORED to be having a match with HIM!"

MM:  "You sure play favorites!  Well, I'm gearing up for my WORLD title shot against DAVID VON ERICH on the 23rd so Powers AIN'T going to sidetrack me from THAT!"

KK:  "That's KILLER MIKE MILLER, your NEXT World CHAMPION!"

To the NEXT match.

Match 2 - "Mad Man" Sonny Meyers vs. Randolph Scott
One fall 10 minutes

MA:  "It seems the "Mad Man" has been diverted from the quest to upend "Downtown" Denny Brown by Mr. Scott sticking to his guns, as it were..."

Oh my, he enters twirling a lasso today!  Extending the production of discarding the cowboy gear...chaps, gloves, bandanna, white vest & hat etc.

Senior ref Wayne Cashman does well to hold Meyers back from his pre-bell attack proclivities.  BARELY.

MA:  "Meyers gets the drop on Mr. Scott.  Don't forget, later on "Superstars of Wrestling", MIKE ALLEN is challenging Lumberjack Jean Pierre for the television title".

Meyers snaps Scott's head over the top rope from the apron - follows with a flying knee off the ropes, putting the popular cowboy right down.  Swinging neckbreaker is next.  Randolph in trouble!

MA:  "The :Mad Man" s having a great match...OH!  There it is, the PILEDRIVER!"

Meyers with a quick pin and an extravagant arm-raise - pounding his chest and baying at...the klieg lights.

MA:  "Randolph IS sitting up now, holding his head as Sonny leaves rather quickly today!  Referee Cashman is helping gather the hat and lasso for Randolph - STRANGE!  He looks quite puzzled at his cowboy outfit..."

RM:  "Later today, we will have "Downtown" Denny Brown in the Main Event, putting his Light-Heavyweight belt on the line.  Milt, you spoke with the challenger earlier today".

We go to a clip.  Milt and Bobby Gaetano.

VTR

MA:  "Bobby, you had a pretty short run as NWA Canadian International Tag champion here, and now you seem to have lost your partner..."

BG:  "Yes, Johnny has headed back to England with Mrs. Dixon.  And that means NO rematch with the MONGOLIANS, AND we were scheduled for a match on the telly today".

MA:  "I understand that DENNY BROWN has seen to it that YOU have singles match today, WITH it being for the Light-Heavyweight title!"

BG:  "Yes, Denny is very kind to make that offer!  BUT, I told him, mon, I am pretty angry about things, I might be a small package ready to EXPLODE!"

END VTR

MA:  "There you have it, fans.  Despite any disappointment or anger, Bobby Gaetano seems eager to return to action.  We'll have THAT title match shortly".

RM:  "Indeed!  Milt, I am sure the "Mad Man" will be very interested in that bout".

COMMERCIAL 3 - This segment of "Superstars of Wrestling" is brought to you by Maple Leaf Foods, our weiners are the CHAMPIONS of hot dogs

MA:  "Fans, the NWA Canadian Women's champion, Miss Joyce Grable, was recently caught in the middle of a dispute that started in ENGLAND!  We saw first-hand the animosity between Mitzi Mueller & Princess Paula - but there is MUCH, MUCH more to this story...here is Mitzi Mueller to explain".

VTR

MM:  "I am happy to give some background as to WHY there is a spot of bother between myself and that guttersnipe PAULA.  Besides being a CHAMPION of England, I also work as an executive for the TOP British promoter.  My coming here to Canada was mainly in the course of making sure the British lads working overseas - both here & Japan - were being looked sfter.  Now, it appears I will need to accompany poor Johnny Kincaid home for medical treatment.  I was delighted that Joyce Grable gave an opportunity for some matches whilst I was here".

"HOWEVER, the Princess of SCRUBBERS has a DIFFERENT agenda!  She turned into an even NASTIER bit of goods on account of her HUSBAND!  An Irish LOUT named FINLAY, who was unhappy about what my husband...errr, the PROMOTER had arranged for him.  In an effort to get revenge, she ruined my chance against Joyce.  As I have my executive duties, I cannot waste my time on this she-devil.  I AM, as a token of appreciation for my time here, bringing a TOP British STAR here to see Paula AND Finlay DO NOT tarnish the British reputation...Thank you all so much!"

END VTR

RM:  "So it appears Sonny Meyers MAY not be pleased to know there is MORE competition in the Light Heavyweight division, debuting in our NEXT match!"

Norm lets us know where LIVE Maple Leaf action is headed!  THIS Saturday in  Oshawa, Sunday in Barrie, Tuesday in Cambridge, Thursday in St. Catharines, Friday in Cayuga, and NEXT SATURDAY MARCH 23rd the NWA WORLD CHAMP in action in Kitchener

Match 3 Marty Jones vs. Johnny War Eagle
One fall 10 minutes

RM:  "Here is the acclaimed British wrestler Mitzi Mueller mentioned earlier, "The Lancashire Lion", Marty Jones.  Oh, War Eagle has been caught off-guard!"

Jones has the Eagle in flight with pinpoint belly to belly suplexes.

MA:  "Now, British wrestling still has MANY weight divisions - I see Jones has held the Middle Heavyweight AND Heavy Middleweight titles...I THINK I have that right - but he is certainly light enough to be a Light Heavyweight here!"

RM:  "As is, I believe, the man Miss Mueller did NOT have praise for - Finlay.  David Finlay, that is.  I believe the British system is based on the stones you have".

Milt shoots a quizzical look.

MA:  "No question this Jones has the errr, gumption..."

Spinning toe hold into a Boston Crab for an impressive debut!

Marty is offered the mic by Norm.

MJ:  "Good to be here, I'm the sort of bloke likes to make a good impression!  Held many a title over the years and as a favor to Mitzi Mueller, I have TWO things in mind!  Firstly, to be named as the challenger to Mr. Brown in the near future!  AND to exemplify the great tradition of British wrestling!  To whit, to serve as a welcoming committee to an IRISH ANIMAL named Finlay who is headed this way!"

COMMERCIAL 4

The camera scans the crowd, a lot of whom are dressed in green!

MA:  "There in the front row is long-time local favorite, MR. PAT FLANAGAN!  He asked me to pass along a "Happy St. Patrick's Day" salute to all the Irish grappling fans!"

RM:  "AND, Pat says that ANY wrestler coming here from Ireland should be a FINE addition!  Erin Go Bragh!"

MA:  "In the ring, Mike Allen looks understandably nervous as he is getting psyched-up for his biggest match here in Maple Leaf Wrestling".

RM:  "A little silent prayer never hurts, I can tell by the ruckus, the QUEBEC LUMBERJACKS are coming!"

Match 4 - Lumberjack Jean Pierre © vs. Mike Allen
One fall 10 minutes
MAPLE LEAF CANADIAN TELEVISION TITLE

Big Lumberjack Mike takes JP's toque & axe, straightens his suspenders after a hearty backslap.  He proudly looks on as referee Danny Marsh holds up the TV belt.  Marsh reminds Mike to take his leave from ringside...

Mike barely makes it to the exit before he turns to make a U-turn.  The match is OVER!

MA:  "That was WORSE than I had guessed it might be!"

REPLAY!  THREE soopslams, ONE chokeslam, ONE legdrop...
.
.
.
1!
.
.
2!
.
.
3!  END REPLAY!

The Lumberjacks make an axe-swinging exit, singing a folk ditty.

RM:  "We have been a little lax in having the SUNshine Girls helping out, something I am sure Sam Menacker would be on top of!  Today we welcome Monday's SUNshine Girl, Patti, who is a hostess at one of the world's GREAT steak-house chains, THE KEG!"

Perky Patti dips her hand into the barrel of opportunity...Milt takes the winning pick.

MA:  "MORE good luck - maybe he's IRISH - for BUDDY ROBERTS!  He is the next challenger for big Jean Pierre!"

And out saunters Buddy himself, in his black leather jacket, chewing his gum.  Shakes Patti's paw.

BR:  "The Keg, you said?  Well, see you tonight, Patti!  Table for SEVEN, me an' THE MONGOLIANS, they eat for THREE!  NOW, speaking of the tag champions, they like to EAT, they like to FIGHT, don't seem like they got no other interests.  So, I'd LIKE to suggest that the OTHER lumber-JACK has HIS hands full next week, face him a MONGOL so I don't need to look at botha them ugly pea-soupers!"

MA:  "Thanks, Buddy - as that title match was so quick, we are ready for the introductions of the Main Event!"

Match 5 - "Downtown" Denny Brown © vs. Bobby Gaetano
NWA CANADIAN LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

We have hustled through the preparations & referee assigned, Terry Yorkston, gets the bell.

RM:  "Just a fabulous physique on the challenger, fortunate in that he did not get the abuse his partner took at the hands of the Mongolians".

Denny learning about them muscles, he's getting a bit of distance after both a besrhug and grinding headlock.

MA:  "We need to take our final break but will be RIGHT back".

COMMERCIAL 5

We return to see Gaetano's reversal of a Brown armwringer send the champ sprawling.

RM:  "As Gaetano suggested earlier, he seems to have a fire in his belly that Brown needs to put out now!"

Bobby G keeps Denny down on the mat with nerve hold grips to the base of the neck.  Yorkston asks DB if that agonized flailing of the arms was a submission - Denny barely can shake his head "NO".

MA:  "Dire straits for Denny, OH!  He desperately tried to reach back, and inadvertently or not, got a thumb SMACK in the challenger's eye!"

Looks like Yorkston is buying the "inadvertent" explanation from Brown.  Unfortunately, Bobby G was NOT listening and has taken affront!

RM:  "The usually laid-back, smiling Caribbean showing a hot temper here...OUCH!'

Rib-cracking judo chops!

MA:  "Gaetano is a champion in Judo & other martial arts, those might be the hardest chops Denny has ever felt!"

As the champ needs to lean on the ropes, Gaetano reaches in and holds him up a long time while delivering a gut-wrench suplex!

RM:  "We have a NEW champion!  Yorkston raises Bobby's arm in victory!  Oh, good sportsmanship from Denny, he offers a handshake".

Overjoyed Gaetano gives Denny an effusive HUG, causing a pained wince!

MA:  "We look forward to seeing you next week on "Superstars of Wrestling"!  Besides Buddy Roberts in TV title action, we will also be joined by "Iron" Mike Sharpe and Kelly Kiniski!"

RESULTS
  • Chris Markoff, Krusher Khrushchev & Ho Chi Win def. Gene & Kelly Kiniski and Moose Morowski
  • Sonny Meyers pins Randolph Scott
  • Marty Jones pins Johnny War Eagle
  • Jean Pierre pins Mike Allen
  • Bobby Gaetano pins Denny Brown
