Championship Wrestling from Florida presents: Southern Championship Wrestling Telecast 3/16/83 across the Sunshine State with Gordon Solie, Buddy Colt, and Barbara Cleary *Matches sanctioned by the AWA, the Major League of Professional Wrestling* Interviews and Announcements: - Gordon is joined by the “Bad man from Boston” Kevin Sullivan and he tells how he has plans now that Jake Roberts and the Legion of Doom are done for. “Gordon, it’s been one long year, battling my way through a war with Jake Roberts. He took everything from me and now that I’ve taken everything from him, I’m still in a taking mood. Because what I heard through a blood soaked haze after I beat Jake Roberts is that Jesse Ventura and his buddy Adrian Adonis couldn’t show up to defend their World Tag Team titles against the Malenko Brothers. And since the Malenkos have the Assassins creeping up right behind them, I figured I would take a shot and ask a man that helped me make my bones in this business, Mike Graham, if he wants to throw out a challenge to the East-West Connection. Mike, we were a great tag team. When we hit the ring together, we still are a great tag team. Now I know I have a lot in my past, but if that can stay in the past, we can take the World Tag Team Titles off those clowns and show that the best tag teams in wrestling call Florida home. You think about it Mike. You think about it until next week and then, then I’m gonna need an answer because cowards like Ventura and Adonis, they don’t deserve to be World Champions.” - “Professor” Bill Ash joins Buddy Colt and after showing footage of his match with Tiger Mask points out that he never submitted. “Jack Terry called for the bell. He never checked it I was responsive. He never asked if I was all right. He just looked and saw me not struggling and called for the bell. I had that masked fool lulled into a sense of overconfidence and that bumbling fool cost me the AWA Junior Heavyweight World title. Now Eddie Graham, I want you to get on the phone with your buddy Vern Gagne. I want a rematch. And I want it ASAP. I proved that I’m as good as any wrestler and better than most. And…” Mark Rocco walks out onto the interview set and has two words for Ash, shut up. “You had your chance sonny boy. You had it and lost. Now, step aside and let a real wrestler show the world who is the best Junior Heavyweight because anybody in this business who knows up from down knows that Mark Rocco is a strong sight better than Tiger Mask and certainly better than you, Bill Ash. If Eddie Graham owes anyone a title match, it’s me.” - King Curtis Iaukea tells Barbara Cleary that he is finished with the Legion of Doom. “Jake Roberts failed to defeat Kevin Sullivan. The Missing Link was defeated by Butch Reed only because Mr. Pogo stabbed him in the back. The Legion is done. Finished. There shall be no Legion for I have no need for one. But I shall have my revenge. I have acquired the services of a true savant, a wrestling genius who will destroy a fool like Pogo and then take from Butch Reed the Florida Heavyweight title that monsters could not acquire. Be forewarned that no one can match him. No one.” - The Assassins tell Buddy that they are sick of waiting and want their match with the Malenkos Tuesday night. “I’ve known Boris Malenko many years Colt. He’s always been a coward, in and out of the ring. And now that his boys have the Florida tag titles around their waists, he won’t sign them to a match. Heck, even Ventura and Adonis knew better than to waste their time embarrassing the Malenko brats. Well I want the belts. I’m not afraid to embarrass you Boris or those whiney wimps you call sons. Tuesday night in the Tampa Armory, the Assassins add one more set of titles to our list. But only after we hurt your boys Boris, just for the hell of it.” - In a videotaped message, AWA World Heavyweight Champion Jerry Lawler tells the fans that despite the loss he and Dusty Rhodes experienced last Sunday, “a champion knows that there is nobody to blame but himself. I shouldn’t have forgotten the snake in the grass Ron Garvin is and I know that when I come back to Florida, I’m gonna show you Garvin that it’ll take more than a lucky punch to take the World title from around my waist.” - Ron Garvin, joined by his brother Terry, Boy Tony, and Southern Heavyweight Champion Greg Valentine, tells Gordon that what they just saw in the ring is exactly what is waiting for Jerry Lawler if he ever has the guts to return to the state of Florida. “One punch is all it takes Gordon. One punch and there is gold around the waist of Ron Garvin. And when, not if, you get back here in Florida, one punch is all it will take for me to lay you out again and this time, it will be for the AWA World Heavyweight Title.” Matches for this telecast: - Kevin Sullivan defeats Pete Doherty with a Boston crab - Mark Rocco defeats Omar Atlas with a leaping knee drop off the second rope - The Assassins defeat Terry Orndorff and “Commando” Mike Boyette when Assassin #3 locked Terry into a swinging neck breaker. - Tyree Pride defeats Mike George after “the Canadian Bruiser” Bob Sweetan caught George on the outside and slammed him into the ring post before rolling him in for a staggered Pride to score the fall. - In the Main Event, Ron Garvin defeats Florida TV Champion Brett Sawyer with a hard right hand that caught a distracted Sawyer after Boy Tony made what can only be described as a lude advance towards the now former TV champ.
